neglected P set up

i have recently come into posseion of a really nice p clone (free of course) and its really neglected the maple neck is almost all grey with grit (it is sealed but really dirty) and the head stock has a small split in the wood from the top to on of the tuner holes but seems to hold and it has an extremely convex bow in the neck.

how do i go about adjusting the truss rod on suck an old untouched guitar - very slowly or jsut not at all and buy a new neck

how do i best clean up the fret board

and how do i go about fixing the crack in the head stock?

thanks

as you are contemplating buying a new neck, I would have a go anyway. Just a quarter of a turn a day and wait till it settles overnight. Lemon oil is best for rosewood fretboards :) cleans the gunge right out of it :hyper:
