Frank Stallone was indeed a singer. I think he got a boost appearing in cameos in the first couple Rocky movies (Sly Stallone used some of his songs in the films and on the soundtrack). Eventually, Frank tried his hand at action films too. I think they were all pretty much 1-2 star, straight to VHS films though.

Farnk's made the big time now, though. He's a commentator on "World's Dumbest" along with Tonya Harding, Danny Bonaduce, Leif Garrett, Todd Bridges, Daniel Baldwin, and Gary Busey.

More or less... Hole was formed about 3 years before she started dating Cobain and the first record came out about a month before too. Hole did however move to Geffen after that, same label as Nirvana.... There's little doubt that the success of their second record had a lot to do with the people's interest with Kurt Cobain who had just died 4 days earlier. But i still wouldnt say its so much Cobain's doing. Though Love was a notorious star****er (she wasnt sure who was the best pick between Billy Corgan or Kurt Cobain), its more about how she slept her way to the top by just associating herself with more talented or famous people than straight nepotism.

So who all do you guys believe only "made it" to the big-time due to having had a famous brother/sister/father/mother/etc.? In other words.... who do you guys consider the Frank Stallone of the music world?

My #1 is definitely going out to Donnie Vandt of 38 Special. After watching a concert clips of him, I've come to the conclusion his main thing is running around with a mic stand while the lead singer actually sings.

I think he's the only one who keeps Don Barnes from firing everyone on the crew Don is a hell of a nice guy, but he's a taskmaster when it comes to the band and doesn't take any ball-dropping from the crew. Donnie had a bigger frontman role at one time, but the record company favored Don's songs and pushed them harder. But don't think Donnie's up there just whackin' it. He is the face of 38 Special, does the lion's share of crowd interaction, sings most of the harmonies and plays rhythm guitar, and I know for a fact that they wouldn't be as good without him. Van Zant, BTW

#2 might have to go out to Sean Lennon. Julian was bearable (enough), but I hate to say... Sean Lennon just doesn't do anything for my ears, but make them ache. Not as bad as his mother, but bad enough.

Sean Lennon is not successful in the music business. Never had a hit song, never played in a band that did.

#3- Miley Cyrus. Just because.

There are lots of musical legacy families. Sometimes the parent is bigger than the child, and sometimes things work out the other way. When that happens you tend to not realize it quite as much. Case in point? Beck. His father was a composer, conductor and arranger in the Los Angeles area who had been working steadily since the 1970's. And you probably know some of the records that he played on and arranged, like Carole King's Tapestry. But Beck's work has probably outshone that of his father, David Campbell.

As for the whole notion of nepotism? I think it's more about personal relationships, business connections and knowing people than anything else. In business people are more likely to take a chance on someone they know than someone they don't know.

Although Amos Newman (Randy's son) smoked pot out of a potato (pulled from the trash) at a private showcase my old band once did for him when he was with Glen Ballard and Java Records, he still gets credit for developing Katy Perry, No Doubt and others. I really wonder.

That was a sad day for us at the time, knowing the potential fate of our music career was in the hands of a spud smoker.

Consider J.S. Bach and his offspring who followed in his footsteps. Is success of some of these offspring of current performers/actors etc. How much of their "getting signed," noticed/discovered is their parents' success or due to their own talents. Is it also an example of following in their parents'/siblings footsteps?

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was a fantastic and very influential composer and musician in his own right. I would say the main reason he was able to be, though, was his father's standing allowed him the ability to have a great education therefor improving his standing in a very hard class system. His work greatly influenced the likes of Haydn, Mendelssohn, Mozart and Beethoven so it's really hard to say that he was all that guilty of riding his fathers coat tales. All of the Bach children were quite talented but Carl was an influential talent and that's a different thing. His father's amazing talent (arguably the greatest composer ever) may have actually hurt Carl's legacy as one of the most influential composers of his time.
