Baseball is popular? I'll take your word for it
There is lots of time to write poetry during baseball...

All by which of saying "don't hold your breath waiting for me to answer a baseball question."...

Waiting IS baseball.......waiting (and paying) for something to actually happen that usually does not.
Most of the time (slightly outside of pitcher and catcher)...what do baseball players do 98% of the time during a game?.....
......stand (wow, athletic), spit, sit, scratch, posture, stand some more, spit, sit, scratch, adjust their nether regions, stretch, (oooh), stand, spit, sit, posture again...and again...

Captivating.

Well Put, my young friend! And when it does...there is nothing more awe inspiring in all of sport! It is THE beautiful game... Of course, like anything worth having and enjoying, it takes patience...something that is in mighty short supply in this world. Allow me to suggest that IF, and only IF, you choose to invest the time necessary to learn how to watch this beautiful game correctly, studiously, you will be rewarded with a lifetime's worth of unadulterated joy! It is one of the touchstones of my life.

Out of geniune curiousity, how does one "watch baseball properly?" I mean, I enjoy taking in a game with a beer on a summer afternoon or night, but is there more to it?

Any sport is fun when you understand it.

Golf lovers enjoy watching golf - to the rest of us, it is paint drying.

Many people love baseball, but say that soccer/football is slow, not enough scoring, and they don't understand it. That's the same thing soccer/football fans say about baseball.

I can understand that. I love hockey for it's spontaneous, rapid-fire play. Baseball, I enjoy as a means to relax. I like the numbers, and I used to be heavy in fantasy ball. To me, the sights, smells, etc. make it worth catching a few games a year.
