Neumann KH-80

Hello folks,

I wonder if anyone mixes their bass tracks with these monitors?

I’m considering buying a pair. Any experience you’ve had would be most gratefully received.

For $1,000 (cost for a pair) and with the Neumann name stamped on them my guess is that they'll sound great. I like that they're front ported so you can get them as close to the front wall as possible which would move the phase cancellation frequencies off the rear to a more easily treatable range acoustically. I'm guessing that with a 4" driver they're not going to blow you away with bottom end response, but for most folks with untreated rooms (if that's the case for you) that's often a good thing in terms of accuracy.

They‘re AWESOME!
Very well balanced and (having a flat phase response) the stereo image they produce is spectacular. Clarity is even better than the bigger and more expensive kh120s.
Everybody who heard (and saw) them was looking for the hidden sub under the desk.
Especially double bass sound very natural on them.
Well worth the money...

You are right, of course.
What I meant to say was: The phase curve is pretty solid without any wraps around the x-over point. In my book this provides good clarity and speech intelligibility.

Here‘s a Smaart measurement that I just took to verify with a Isemcon 7150 mic at a distance of 10cm, pointed between woofer and tweeter. The 115 Hz bump is my room.

Neumann has introduced a software and mic for the KH 80 in colaboration with the Fraunhofer Institut to automatically tune the speakers to the room. Would be really interested to try this. It is called the MA 1 (Monitor Alignment Kit).

...I know that no calibration software on planet earth can make misplaced speakers in a bad room sound like in a well treated room, but I believe that software like this can solve or minimize some problems in not so ideal rooms. And the Neumann concept sounds promising.

I’d be curious to hear how this sounds as well. I’ve owned both ARC2 and Reference 4, which is the current go-to application for most professionals using room correction software, but could never get my mixes to translate on corrected systems. Maybe Neumann could do a better job. The big winner in this field is Trinnov, but I can’t justify spending $4,000 on a hardware room correction unit.
