Shipping prices for instruments are astronomical. I’m never gonna pay to ship an instrument again. $380 cross country is diabolical.

Did you use pirate ship? Last September i used them, which was UPS Ground, to ship a bass from Kansas to Washington DC for about $55 with insurance.

It was all through UPS ground, so yes since i purchased the insurance. Knocking on wood, i've never had to test the insurance yet, and from the horror stories I've read I hope I never have to...
Just sold a P bass with gig bag and shipped from Santa Rosa, CA to Texas. Buyer supplied UPS label through Ship Station, 2nd Day Air. Cost was $70. Don't know how but seems it is possible...tracking says it will arrive tomorrow.

Is that a shipping service (UPS, etc), or common carrier freight line (J B Hunt, etc)?
I buy basses in...halves. Bodies and necks from Warmoth. Each half ships across the country for about $20 - $40 total. If you take the neck off a bass and ship it in 2 boxes like Warmoth does, You could save enough money in shipping to buy a REALLY nice gig bag for carrying it around once it gets where it's going.

You're going to take the neck off of a $8k MTD and ship it in two boxes? Don't think the buyer is going to get any chuckles out of that.
Wow! I pay less than that to ship a bass from America to New Zealand! Via USPS. But to be fair, they remove the neck to make the box smaller.
Did you pay a UPS Store to pack and ship the bass? The stores are usually franchises and they make most of their money from packing. If you pack the bass yourself you’ll save a lot.
