Nevis amplification ?

That’s for sure why. It’s just rare to see them used outside the context of computers.
In the past, it was because they (Noctua fans) didn’t have UL/IEC 62368-1 component safety approvals that are required for amps certified to international standards. They also don’t offer some of the sizes and voltages that we use in the audio industry. I haven’t looked at them since then so maybe that has changed.

[edit: it appears that they are now safety and EMC compliant, but still don’t offer some of the sizes and voltages that the audio industry commonly uses]

So do these amps have safety certifications? If not how are they dealing with not having them?
The amps are currently only being sold in the United States, where no safety certifications are required to sell amplifiers.

We are looking into FCC part 15( radio frequency regulatory compliance regarding interference, not a safety certification), which may be required on our class-D amplifiers, though that won't be an issue with the class-D modules we are using.

We're currently looking into the CE certification (and RoHS) to sell to Europe


Fom the picture of back of the amp, it doesn't seem have any of the usual safety approval logos. I think it is illegal?

Within the US it is not illegal, we will seek CE and RoHS certifications before selling to Europe, and entertain UKCA, TUV, PSE, and RCM certs if there were ever the demand in those respective regions.

We've followed all of the industry standard best practices, used appropriately rated and UL certified components, proper gauge UL listed wiring, and mechanically grounded the chassis in the correct way, among many other factors.

I would invite you to look at the back of a Darkglass Microtubes 900 v2, a Fender EVH 5150III Stealth 50w, two major companies selling amps in the US with zero certificates. Both very nice, very safe amps that have a soft-spot in the heavy-music part of my heart.

For switchmode power supplies and switching (digital in the FCC's definition) devices like class D amplifiers fall into the below classification:

FCC 47CR, Subpart B, Paragraph 15.101 clearly states:
unintentional radiators shall be authorized prior to the initiation of marketing, pursuant to the procedures for certification or Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC)

This means that you can't market a device that falls under FCC regulations in the US or Canada (Canada follows FCC in this case) no less place for sale.

This is a complicated topic with incorrect assumptions being made... violating FCC regulations can quickly become costly:

I continue to work this amp and its been stellar.
sound techs and folks I've played with really dig it!
nice big but controlled vibe. im a p bass/jazz bass guy and it shines with those
took it to church this morning and used it as my DI.
sounded great out front and in ears,
I ran it flat.
im not wordy so at a later date with more time spent, ill write more and post some clips.

I have run my stomp in front for a very low blended "blanket" compression and the occasional fine tuning EQ for certain rooms.
the power has been sufficient thus far and I honestly can say 100% that, this thing is one of the most solid built amps I've ever had.
