New 6 strings from Rondo ($170)

Thanks Jzbass! Loved the review, it definatly made me want one some more, the thing holding me back is the noise, but as you said in your review, it was only when you moved the balance past center. Do you suppose that with a new pre in it, that it could be fixed? Or maybe with new pickups?

Odds are if I ended up getting one I would be swapping the pre out anyways but I was just curious.

Your welcome Jared, it's the pickups causing the noise so replacing them with noiseless or humbuckers would solve the noise issue and fatten up your sound.

Or just don't worry about the noise. My USA Jazz bass makes noise because it has single coil pickups. I usually run it both volumes all the way up so there is no noise, but when I back off on one or the other pickup I don't sweat it.

I wonder if Carvin Jazz-style pickups would fit in those slots. I'm not sure how much of an improvement in tone you would get, but at least you would have the option of cutting down the hum.

Ya I was just about to ask about replacement pickups too bassman. Jzbass, would you possibly be able to measure your pickups on your bass you bought and post the measurements to see what pickups might fit.

Hey guys, the measurements are 11/16ths or 18 mm wide for the pickups excluding dog ears - with dog ears 1 1/4" or 30mm wide. lenght is 4" or 100mm long. I hope this helps.

Jzbass, did you have to enter your drivers lisence number on the site before you ordered it?

It is telling me I have to, and I'm not so sure I want to because I don't know why they need it

No I wasn't asked for that, a little too much info if you ask me. I'd email them and ask why they need it, then again I paid with Paypal maybe that's why I wasn't asked.

The fretless WEB-846 is on its way to my mailbox as I type this, so I’ll make sure to post some impressions for the rest of you guys after the bass arrives.

I plan on tuning it to EADGCF, so I went ahead and purchased a customized pair of flatwound string sets from Chad over at sonicstrings.net (superb customer service BTW).

The only other modifications I'm considering are switching out the pickups and/or the preamp. Does anyone have some advice for potential replacement parts?

"Only reason i could see to change them would to go to hipshot ultra lights as there is a bit of neck dive"

I received mine yesterday and there is a huge neck dive alright...i was wondering would hipshot lite tuners really reduce the neck dive or is the headstock just heavy no matter what. the pickups are fine only noisy if the balance control isnt at centre but other than that its a pretty descent bass. I also think those carvins pickups would be a cheaper option for replacements.

One more thing i ordered the lefty version in the blue finish but it doesnt come with the stringthru bridge as pictured on ebay so that was a bit of a letdown for me.
