New Acoustic 360 Demo

They used a mic on top of the video camera about 6 feet from the amp. It picked up plenty of the horn but none of the rich bottom the cab puts out. David played at the Acoustic booth, and also for DR on a 360/361 they borrowed from Acoustic USA.

I wish amp companies would take their demos a little more seriously. I guess that's OK for a NAMM quickie, but I'd rather hear it done in a studio with optimum micing. Doesn't have to be fancy, but at least don't use a vid cam mic.

Boy, that'll be tough. The backline rental business is so dominated by Ampeg, GK, Hartke, SWR and Eden that it's really tough to get anything else, especially in midline cities.

I thought Acoustic USA had gone out of business. They had Flea as one of their endorsers but he's back with GK. There was a guy on Craigslist in L.A. selling some brand new Acoustic USA 8x10 and 4x10 cabs for about $700. He said he had bought out the remaining batch or something to that effect.

That's precisely why I think it would be cool. ;)

I kid. I actually think those are all fine amps from hearing other bassists use them but it would still be nice to be able to take a new 360 for a spin, realistic or not.

I lug my vintage Russ Allee designed amp to gigs even when provided backline is offered because it sounds so damn good to me. I'd leave it home if I could request his new amp.

Also, while it's weight and size keep it from being an option for many, I still see tons of 8x10's with SVT's and Sunn Tube heads sitting atop so someone's still using these larger amps.

I believe that Acoustic USA is only producing the 15" and 18" folded horn powered cabs currently tho it is true that I do not, in fact, know everything. :)

In all fairness though, this obviously was a quick magazine interview and not a "company official" demo video.

That said, I'd also like more companies producing high quality demos, such as e.g. the one SWR have done where Marcus Miller walks through the controls of his signature preamp.

Maybe the guy bought out prototypes that didn't make it to market.

I saw some unloaded 410 cabs in George's "shop" a few years ago, but no 810s.

I've seen ads about those cabs, too. They're not Acoustic USA cabs though; they're from the short period in time (around 2001) where Samick made a brief attempt to produce amps under the Acoustic moniker. I've read that only 50 each of those cabs were ever made.

They must have been the Samick era cabs, like lfh said. I see them all over the web in the last 6 months or so.

If Acoustic USA does expand upon their current offerings, I'd love to see designs with 12" and 15" speaker configurations, like the old ACC cabs. They may be big and heavy, but those old cabs really do get the job done.

That isn't confusing at all... their products also look similar style wise, only another hardcore bass nerd will be able to tell the difference.

Why would you sell a product so it can be destroyed, only to end up re-using the name yourself... doesn't seem to make good business sense to me.

To each their own.

On the plus side, Acoustic USA does deal outside of the US, specifically Canada.

I also read this on the Canadian website, the head will not be $4,000, it will actually be pretty reasonable for a big ole tube head.
