I use Aguilar AG500 head and GS 112 cab now, Im not an endorser just a customer ( unfortunately ). This quality products sounds very full, warm yet clear for upright too. On bigger gigs I have rodies and i have a GK MB150 for small club gigs and rehearsals, but many URB player not interested to use Aguilar gear, because the weight. But now everything changed, Aguilar comes out with a new 1x12 neo cab the SL 112 (weights 25 lbs!!!), and the Tone Hammer 500 head (weights 4 lbs!!!).:hyper:

yeah, there's already a thread on the lightweight cab and the lightweight 12's. they DO look nice, but i have 3 GS112's and a GS212, so for the money just to go a BIT lighter doesn't do it for me.

pretty awesome though.

Many players like John Patitucci, Avishai Cohen, Gerald Canon use the Ag 500 for upright.The AG500 is a excellent quality gear, it has A class preamp section, this is very rare in the solid sate bass amps. If you have that amp already, don't waste your money to buy a second amp! Off course everything subjective soundwise. The AG500 has a color, but a very nice color.
It's not a "transparent" amp, I never care too much transparent amps, because I searching for amplify my bass, not my piezzo pickup.
It has 1Mohm input impedance, so technically works with piezzo. If you need to manage feedback with hpf, phase reversal, notch filter, you can use an external preamp like Headway. I can recommend the AG 500 for acoustic bass!

Could you insert the Headway EDB-1 in to the send return and use it as the Preamp for the upright? I know there are other players who do this with their amps.

I pretty sure yes!
The AG 500 has the most flexible send return what I ever seen.
Here the spec of the FX loop:
Series/Parallel; Send pot is Push/Pull for Line or Instrument level; Return pot is Push/Pull for Parallel or Series operation.

thanks! I am going to use the AG500 with an Eden 210XLT cab. I have a Fishman Platinum pro which I can use as an extra preamp.
I also have an Aguilar Tonehammer pedal/preamp but I think the Fishman will be better for upright.
Not sure if the 1 Mohm is enough for my Full Circle and/or Biesele pickup.

Since the Pro Platinum has a 10 megohm load it takes care of that issue, toot sweet.

It must works for upright! The sweepable mid could be useful to extend the the EQ possibilities of the AG 500, I can image to boost the high mid ( @800 ) at the amp slightly, to help cut through the mix, while cut with the tone hammer @ 600Hz to make the sound less piezzo. The Tone Hammer unfortunatelly lacks feedback management, but as a sound shaping, signal boosting, DI unit could be useful with URB. The input in the Tone Hammer rated 1 Mohm also. You said you have one, try it and please share your impressions as well as with AG 500.

I remember where someone raved about the Tonehammer on the Double Bass Amps Thread, but I couldn't find it. I like these new micro amplifier designs for DB, lots of companies are building them now. Two channel amps for doubling aren't as popular as they once were, although I ocassionally double I'm usually using EB or DB not EB and DB. Just my thoughts though.

I don't using any external preamp with the AG 500 and FC, and its sounds very good for me at normal volume. Only some very loud situations felt, I need some unit to manage feedback. Keep in mind the AG 500's preamp section is better quality than both of the stomp boxes. So I recommend to use the Tone Hammer in the FX loop if you feel, need more shape option in the midrange to dial your sound, use the Platinum in the FX loop if you feel need reversing the phase or need HPF, or use the Platinum between the pickup and the amp's input, if you feel you need higher input impedance than 1 Mohms.

when using the AG500 with the Platinum Pro do you think it is better to use the DI from the Platinum or the AG500 for upright?
Normally I use the DI of the AG500 when doing EB gigs. But when doing gigs with the upright it might be better to use the Platinum before the input of the Aguilar AG500 and then use the DI of the Platinum to go directly to the sound man.

I love their design aesthetic. They make really beautiful equipment. I had a GS112 some years ago, but didn't really have the head to power it and never got a great sound out of it, so I sold it. Don't think it was exactly the cab's fault, just may lack of ability at the time to conceive of a good rig. This new cab is, once again, a thing of beauty, though I realize that's not the point.

I'll keep an eye out for these.

I think Aguilar make the No.1 design on the market, black/silver looks so elegant on the AG heads and GS cabs. I use the AG 500 with GS112 cab. I owned the cab longer than the head, I used with my GK MB 150 ( 100w ) amp before got the Aggie head, not really works, It's a power hungry cab. With the AG 500 the difference is night and day, but the GS 112 has pro and cons. Has a very good low end for the size, and nice smooth sound with a very nice, never harsh tweeter. But it has a scoop at the high mid, sometime hard to cut the mix on the stage. Many times when musicians say not hear the bass on the stage, I boost slightly the high mid on the amp (@800Hz ), and they think I rise the volume. If you look at the specification, this new cab ( SL 112 ) will be different, it will be not as power hungry as the GS 112, and I pretty sure it will not sounds scooped. The SL 112 could be a very upright friendly cab!
