I would call the Vox's compressor powers interesting. I haven't tried it enough to call it either fun or redundant. But I noticed in a video, before I got mine, that just turning it on seemed to give a discernable boost to the sound, which surprised me. So, in checking out mine I listened for that and, sure enough, there it was! I've never noticed a sound boost from a compressor before, though I still have a couple of Bassman combos with it built-in.

Also, the overdrive is not something I've actually used, though I haved messed around with it and assisted my stepson playing with it. He's a metalhead and he really liked it! I was glad to be able to get a very tube-sounding drive at low volume levels since there are a few songs in my repertoire that call for it.

I think I've mentioned, but it bears repeating, that I was disappointed to find the Direct Out is totally pre-EQ! None of the settings or effects are output there. Does that make it a "true DI"?

RE: the compressor

I took mine out on the back porch today & cranked it loudly.

Played out for the first time this year! (05-Feb-19)

I forgot I had the compressor on & I thought I was going to watch the driver blow the cobwebs out of the port-holes.
It barely moved, even when playing loud!

Eventually I realized the compressor was on & then it was moving, but I had already put a finger through the grille to get the cobweb out, LOL!
Anyway, my observation is that if you're playing lightly the compressor acts like a boost, but it's the opposite if you're playing with more force.

In the last quarter of 2018 I was crossing my mind over getting the VOX or the Rumble Studio 40.
On Black Friday I went ahead & bought the Rumble, even though I already had the VOX.

TBH I thought I was going to go nuts on the modeling & effects of the Studio 40, but I've barely touched it.
The effects aren't that great. The WAH is nowhere near N.I.B. :smug: & the pitch-shifter sounds like Tweaky farting!

Well-- thats a description of pitch shifting Ive not heard--well done!
I have a Hartke B600 Ive had for MANY moons-- and it has outlasted the comings and goings of Ampegs--Kustoms--Marshalls--Bugeras and Behringers---Peaveys--Fender Rumbles and an Orange even.........it will be interesting to see if the VOX -- OR the Ashdown can knock it off its perch.......or perhaps 2 will stay and one will go -- I dont have the room for 3 bass amps :(

Well KBD-- mine arrived today --- and after 2 hours or so fiddling with it -- using various basses--and moving it around the room---
I can HONESTLY say -- I AM DAMNED IMPRESSED-- the low tones that emanate from that little box are VERY impressive for the speaker size!!!!!-- PERFECT for bedroom practices--
great tone-- nice features-- -- very very impressed-- enough punch to vibrate a picture or 2 on the walls--- Im gonna say -- mic'd up I bet it could play a small venue-- coffee bar-- dinner jazz gig type deal....
maybe 3 piece acoustic jam-- ??

I had a Pathfinder VOX bass amp (2, 5" speakers I think????) years ago-- wasnt impressed-- this is on par with the smaller Rumble -- it keeps up with my B600 Hartke -- doesnt "beat it" but its a nice sidline too it--

On a guitar players' forum they were considering using the KeyBoard version of this amp as monitors.
Unfortunately no one ever reported back if they actually tried it, but I'm sure it would work.

Well you certainly didnt misrepresent it---

No it will not play the ALbert Hall -- others in the thread "poo'ed" on the little voxs --of course it is not a Heavey Metal Mega watt band practice amp-- not what it was designed for---not what I wanted it for---
it does WHAT it was designed for VERY well

right now with it 9 ft away-- vol on 50% gain only on 1.5 sitting -----running my '81 G3 GRabber through it--- sounds very good-- low -- warm-- round bass tone---

I got 2 bass amps this month
An Ashdown Rootmaster 220 combo
and this VOX ---

the rootmaster is on CL for sale as we speak----very very underwhelmed for a 499.00 amp originally (new)

the VOX is a keeper--
