New amp suggestions?

Well, I recently decided I need a new amp. I've got two basses, the Nikki Sixx Blackbird (Epiphone model) and the B.C. Rich Paolo Gregoletto 5 string Warlock. Both have amazing tone, with a fullness that permeates the whole note and can only be described as "metal".

But my Line 6 LD150 gives them this dullness, this lack of fullness to the sound. I've heard them both plugged into other amps, and that "muffled" sound is gone.

Now i'm a complete dolt when it comes to amplifiers, but i've heard from a bassist of 7 years amps with digital processing built-in do that.

If this is true, what's a good company to go by, or better yet, any specific amps? And if not, any tips to help my dumb ass?

First, No one is a Dumb Ass for asking questions and opinions...

There are many Amps on the market that will make your basses sound great...

The first thing IMO is you should look at what you are doing with the Bass Rig, (gigging, playing with friends, etc...)

Second, look at the amount of money you have to spend/invest...

I am sure there are a 3rd and 4th...

IMO, I love the sound of my Ampeg SVT 4 Pro with my Ampeg SVT 810 Cabinet, I also play Epiphone Thunderbird Basses, but it is a big rig to have if you are not needing such...

I also am a fan of the Peavey TKO combo amps, they have good sound, and are small enough to bring to most any practice...

Used Ampeg SVT 4 Pros are going for about $600-$900, and Ampeg SVT 810 Cabinets are listed in many places for as low as $400...

You need to go out and play through some stuff. G-K MB 210/212/115 are really nice loud and clear light weight options. GenzBenz gets a lot of love, Mesa, Carvin, MarkBass, "Ampeg", "Fender", Orange, Ashdown, Acoustic (budget minded) the list goes on and on.

Well, at the moment i've got $400 to spend. But after I sell a couple things, I might have closer to $700-$1000 to work with.

Well, with $400 you have a good start, as B-string said, there are a lot of different amps out there.

Most importantly, take your time. Play through as many amps as you can before you make a decision.

I got lucky with my rig, but only after playing through everything Guitar Center, Bass Northwest, and American Music (Bellevue) had.

Then I got opinions of friends who play, and read a ton of reviews.
