New amp: Traynor stack

You rule !!!

Only Mono Block B (for 'Beavertone' !) I've ever even seen in person was brought over from Italy by a band on tour & playing my city's jazz fest. They're pretty rare.

Love the Mono Block II and those old Peavey or Traynor 2x15 cabs.

Good luck with the new rig.

Both mono Blocks are nearly the same. The only difference I'm aware of is the II has the graphic EQ. Great amps! And you got a killer deal!

Wow, you guys stay up late! I'll be adding this to my other Traynor gear. I already have a '69 YBA-1, '69 YGM-3, and an early 70's "Big B" 8x10 cab, which is getting new speakers TOMORROW!

I'm mainly a guitar player, but I own a bass and needed more power than my 60w Ampeg V2 head can deliver. When I really want to crank it, I'll be playing the Monoblock through both the 2x15 and the 8x10. Neighbors cower in fear!

The first stage-worthy rig I owned was one just like this (except for the green power cable). Nice goin'! :)

CAUTION: The Traynor MONO Bock B/II had/have NO short circuit protection on their speaker outputs!

Be sure to test your speaker cable before each use. Before even plugging mine in I used a cheap, 9VDC-powered 1/4"-only, POS, short/open/good-type tester. 'Did the job.

I'm hoping the Cerwins are in great shape (seller said they are) because I might sell them and put a 3015 and 3015LF in there. Probably will shave about 25 pounds off the cab weight and make it even louder. The only tough part is that Traynor had the bad habit of GLUING speakers in around the rim in that era.

BTW, I can't get the cover off the monoblock. That louvered panel on top looks like it should lift off when the screws are removed, but it seems stuck. Anybody had problems getting one open? Is there some trick to it I'm not realizing? The side handles are loose and I think they need to be tightened from inside.

Snapped a few pics of it last night. I'm going to rewire the cab with some new, heavier gauge speaker wire. I might try to sell the Cerwins and put a 3015 and 3015LF in there to shave weight and get even more oomph.

Again, any tips on getting it open? I can't get that top off to save my life.

What wattage does the Mono Block B head put out at 4 ohms? Maybe 250? If you're going to replace the two Cerwin Vegas, I'd go with two 3015 drivers. The 3015 will be brighter and louder than the 3015LF when driven by a single amp channel, you might not like the mix.
