NEW Ashdown OriginAL Valve Pre-DI Pedal

I got it from GAK (Invalid Link Removed) back in July (2017)- there was a long delay, so I spoke to Ashdown, who explained they had had to change the name of the pedal - it was originally called "Origin". I have a feeling their first batch were quickly snapped up because no one seems to have them in stock now. Sorry I can't be more help. I have to say, in my opinion, it's worth ordering and putting up with any delivery delay.

Some news....

Fair shout, but who on here plays in a band where that sort of playing would be tolerated? That tone is also a bit light in the mids! Sounds great solo'd but in a band mix that is going to disappear.

It's got knobs to push the mids, both low and high mids.

Having said that, it would be nice to see a good youtube review that goes thru the ranges of settings, different playing styles, etc. The youtube videos I've seen were very sorely lacking. I'm looking for something with a good tubey fender tone stack that has good EQ capabilities, in a pedal format. This *might* be it ...

Well I've had it now for a week and.....
1) The unit does not come with a power supply assuming you will run it through a pedal board. Not ideal at all.
2) The valve gain is a very specific sound, it is not very dynamic. It is all or nothing.
3) The DI is clean and sounds great outside of the valve gain

Worth the money? Not for me. I wanted to be able to merge valve in and out of the sound rather than all or nothing. There are other DIs that are much cheaper.

The 300 watt amp head version is out. I am really looking forward to hearing how this sounds! The features are all there - but lets be real...

Ashdown does not have a great track record with pedals.

Hopefully the construction is rock solid and the tone is classic beefy ashdown all the way.

I've had this pedal for a while now, done several gigs with it, straight into the PA - best bass sound I've ever had! It's difficult to describe why it's so good, I find it's just a great balanced sound for bass guitar. I'm not keen on the overdrive sound but then I haven't spent much time experimenting with the overdrive settings, besides, I use a Sansamp pedal and an alpha/omega pedal for distorted sounds, which work very very well fed into the OriginAL pedal.

Sorry if this is overly skeptical, but Phil here joins TalkBass, posted two post about how good this pedal (that he somehow magically had before everyone else) is, and then has never been heard from again.

Yes but it need some overhaul. The 300Watts Valve Head is amazing.

It appears this Ashdown Origin pedal is not in NZ. Think I'd be keen to try it out.

Yeah I bet it is- the extra headroom at the power stage would sound great.

What I'm interested in is the BTA200 on sale at music planet. When they decide to really firesale it, I will jump on it.

The original pedal.... I'm not sure. I have the original head, and the EQ is effective, but not "wow".

Small update: got mine last week, now waiting for another one.

This one has a lot of hiss on the headphones out and I can barely get no heavy-metal-distortion-like sound from this device, it is all or nothing. My EBS Valve Drive is much more subtle.
