new bass - £800

Im after a new bass, i have about £800 if i have to stretch that much...

ive been looking at mm stingrays such as this ..

and i really like the sound for slap, but i also want something that can be plucked also, and i'm not sure if the stingray is ideal, what is its sound like plucked?

i play, funk (slap and fingered) Jazz (bigband etc) and rock and i want something that can deal with all of these genres but if i had to lean towards one it would be the funk!

I've been reading up on the stingray and i am slightly concerned about he problem that seems to occur wit the g string being quieter than the others, and that it is easy to make the g string slide off the neck whilst playing, a combination of this, the smaller neck profile and the amount of slapping I do (ie, not as much as fingered) is making me think that the sterling may be more suited to my style, and opinions?

I own a sterling and I too have a problem with the quiet G string, which doesnt bother me as I dont play the G string often as i perfer to groove on the E and A. All in all its a good bass, good ergonomics, versatile EQ, very playable neck and its built like a workhorse. You can't go wrong with any EBMM bass really, the stingray or sterling or even the toilet seat (bongo) will do you just fine!

I have two rays (one fretted one fretless, both HH).

And i can honestly say, ive never had an issue with pullnig the G off the side of the neck, and i dont notice it being quieter than the other strings.

Pffft. Check out a Bongo. All the strings are perfectly balanced if you have it set up right

And I got my HHP for £750
(which was very lucky, mostly because the person sold it on for what he bought it for, and I'll do the same if I ever sell this -- Bongos should be PLAYED!)

But I'm sure you could find a bongo at a decent price around that if you were interested...

Stupid England! Used Stringray in American = $800 or so, right?

+1 on the Sandberg. I have a JJ California, silver plated. Think it will stay with me longer than the wife!!

I often see used neck-thru Warwicks go on eBay for £700-ish. Got one myself (a '91 Thumb) for £650, mint condition.

They're a bit of a one-trick pony, tone-wise, but it's a very clever trick from a very attractive pony, so worth a punt if you like... tricks. And ponies. Or something.

hehe, the bongo sounds good, but I cant see any second hand (ebay..) also thumb looks cool too! I think that th only way is to try some out.. any suggetions where to go? i live near cardiff wales...
