So, technically, I got this on Tuesday, but I haven't had time to post about it yet. I was in Guitar Center last month and saw this bass, and it played and sounded great. I wanted to buy it there for $230, but it was used, and as per Florida law, they have to hold on to used instruments for 15 days, and it had only been in there for 2. So, Tuesday, my parents surprised me by bringing it home after school. My mom even had the tech put on new strings, set it up, and install DiMarzio Cliplocks.
Anyways, they brought it home and I loved it. It played great right off the bat, despite being a little heavy. The first day or so the stretching and the low B string caused a little pain in my wrist, but since I've gotten used to it, I love it. I keep finding all kinds of uses for the low B string, and it's not floppy or muddy. All of the notes on the bass are clear, and the sustain is amazing compared to my last bass.
What I really love about it are the active pickups. For some reason I think they're Bartolinis. Regardless, they have a level of tone control completely unparalleled by even my last active bass. Between the knobs, I've managed to get the low tone of Martin Mendez, the treble tone of Cliff Burton, the mid-scooped tone of Fieldy (make fun of me if you will) and just about everything in between. In addition, the harmonic response is amazing and I can hit a harmonic just about anywhere.
Anyways, I just thought I'd brag about my new bass to everyone here and talk about it. If anybody's looking for a budget 5 that really works, I'd suggest this in a heartbeat.
And of course, the pictures. Some of you may recognize the first
