Hi people! My first thread so be nice!

Basically I need a new bass and want some advice!

I’m picking up my new GK 700rb this week and want to do it justice with a decent bass! I play in a wedding band playing funk soul pop etc bla bla….

I’ve had Warwicks and fenders and was on the lookout for something a little different like a blade or status.

Obviously money is an issue I’m looking to spend around £500 $1000 ish (depending on exchange rate)! :D:D:D

Any Ideas? :confused:

Funk, soul, pop, etc...sounds like a Stingray to me. But the title is extremely misleading. Top pro basses and then you don't even list Sadowsky, Lakland, Spector...oh wait, it's just some TB'er looking for a new bass. Get my point? :D

First, welcome to TB! Second, could you be more specific as to the basses you own now, if any? That would help folks suggest better complements for your current gear.:)

Hi shure sorry bout the vague discription.

i have no bass at the mo, i'm borrowing a 'vintage' (dont laugh) from my friend, hence me looking for a new bass.


I would have mentioned 'Sadowsky, Lakland, Spector' but they are compleatly out my price range.

Cool, no worries! As for Lakland, are the Skyline versions out of your price range over there? They're really fine instruments. Here in the U.S., the JO4 and DJ4 are a bit cheaper than Stingrays and about the same price as a US-made Fender Jazz.

I play in a function band (weddings, parties, some pub work) playing the kind of mix you do and I invariably take out the P bass so I voted for that. But a Precision, Jazz or 'Ray will fit the bill nicely it's all down to what your comfortable with. Happy spending!

I voted all because at the end of the day, it's your hands and the notes you make with it that get you gigs and get you hired. I've heard guys on cheap $250 basses play great lines for great sessions alongside of +++ $ vintage instr. as well as "unconventional" basses making a session.

it's not a cliche because it is a reality and truth.... it's all about the player.

so.... get what feels the best to you and makes you wanna play. :bassist::bassist:
