I just figured the one bridge pickup models might be better for slap/funk. I love my L-1000 too!

P.S. If you get a Jazz bass, I'd recommend the series/parallel mod, to make it more flexible. And Aero's....

If he is extremely lucky. I have never seen a Stingray go for under £700, and an American Spector at £500? Be realistic, you'd only just have enough for a legend with that amount of money. Maybe a used Rebop if your lucky.

Actually Spector Legends are very much in your price range and they are very good Basses for the money ask Johnny A.
Yes you can definitely find Used Euros and Stingrays for way under $1000 I see them going all the time for 700-1000
