new bass. opinions?

ill be turning 21 soon, and my parents feel its a big deal (i however do not) and want to get me something ill remember, so i was thinking maybe a new bass (i own a cheap import)

i was looking at 3 basses in general, but am open to ideas (under 600)
i play punk, indie (ie death cab), some hardcore, and just generic rock.

any ideas on basses?

Out of those 3, I like the Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV the best.

I think you need a P. There are a couple of nice ones on the Basses for Sale forum here on TB. (none of them are mine) I think there is even 1 MIA just about in your price range

also i like sterlling basses.

would buy on tb, but parents want to go to a store. bday isnt till july so i have lots of time to choose.

Actually if I were going to get one of those, I'd get the Diamond P. Love the looks of it.

I almost guarantee if you buy the Epi you'll be selling it again in about a month. They look cool but for the most part the neck dive is annoying as heck (even with strap relocation). They're bulky, heavy and awkward.

Keep in mind with the epi your going to have neck dive. Dont buy a bass based on looks alone go try them out and see what feels right and sounds good.

I have a T-bird and I love it but, I would go play all of them in a store to find out which one you like best.

My vote is the Epi Thunderbird.

The Epi Pro isn't heavy at all, relocating the forward strap button (ala Gibson T-bird) solves the neck dive, and the electronics...active or not...are its weakest point. (From an owner)
