new bass. opinions?

As far as punk goes, a lot of punk bassists get that clean, sorta choppy tone with P basses.
I dunno how the Schecter plays, but since it's got the P/J sort of configuration, I'd get that so you leave yourself open to options.
 
I'd go with the Schecter; more pickups, more tonal flexibility, and given the quality of the Schecter basses I've played in the past, you should have no worries about getting a P clone (although it seems more like an upgrade from the standard Fender).
