New signature preamp pedal from NUX. Melvin Lee Davis sig. I'm trying to find the price for this. NUX is an upcoming company. I just bought a wireless system from them.

wow, a fully featured amp-in-a-box. You can use it to re-amp a dry sound via the USB. That is friggin handy. Can't what to hear what it sounds like it. Has noise reduction, sounds like it might get a bit nasty. Thanks for posting!

I found a Taiwanese price and converted, came back at $290 AUD and I feel like that would be around the mark. They couldn't really make it any more expensive because that starts to become second hand DG territory.

I just found out about this today. Have you used it yet? If so, what do you think about it so far? Can you draw any comparisons to other popular preamp/DI boxes? I’m thinking about buying the Nu-X since it has the headphone out and aux in and all the extra software features, but the demos I heard on YouTube made it sound kind of digital and abrasive instead of warm and fat as I would expect from a bass preamp. I haven’t found any reviews yet so thank you in advance for any info you’re willing to share!

i'd be interested in your take, too ( DWBass or scubaduba ). i'm using an ampex classic on my tiny pedalboard because it's cheap/effective, but the NUX piece is obviously more sophisticated --- in your experience: is it worth the price of admission?

First thoughts...
1) The headphone out is very clean and quiet (no noise I can hear at all, even with IEMs).
2) The unit as a whole is very quiet (bass in to out, aux in to out).
3) No noise or other funny issues when using an IR.
4) The drive is very nice and useful. Man, some of that mixed in is gold!
5) The finish is a very nice texture and the graphics/labeling are inset. Very nice look and feel.

6) MUST do a firmware update for it to work properly with the editor software. Firmware update procedure is not spelled out. Thanks to @scubaduba for figuring it out!
7) Before doing the firmware update, I could not load an IR. But the firmware update fixed that.

Wow, this thing is killer for $179. It sounds great! And the capabilities!

For anyone that has played with IRs, you know that they completely dominate other aspects. And that's true with the NuX NBP-5. Which is good, in my opinion, because you can really make this thing what you want it to be. The IR you use changes the whole character.

Because the drive is so good and the IRs let you totally tweak what you get, win!

There is so much they can do with this platform. I hope NuX does.

I think the eq points seem a little strange. 40hz seems a little low, and 8000hz seems quite high. I assume future amp models will be able to have different eq points.

I agree with you, squarewave. I went with a different preamp/DI because the EQ frequency bands on the NuX seem kind of strange. I was thinking maybe they wouldn’t be too helpful for the kind of tone I usually go for. The IR options seem really cool though. I found that I could get it for about $120 new over here in Thailand but after some careful thinking, I decided to go with the Palmer Pocket Bass Amp for $30 more. Hopefully I won’t be kicking myself later, heh..

Maybe I'll do some sweeps, because the 40 Hz spec seems incorrect based on what I'm hearing. It's much more useful than that. And, one would think it should be different for each amp.

Bass centered at 40hz might seem low but in practice with the NUX, it works fine.

Bartolini NTMB preamps have bass centered at 30hz and treble at 10khz.

The treble control on the NUX is too brittle sounding for my tastes but since I tend to cut treble anyway I’m satisfied with it.

The sadowsky pre pedal I believe is 40 hz bass and 5 k treble. Very nice small unit and easy to carry around. The Nux is another great unit. With a low B and 40 hz or below is Massive.

For a five string bass, 40hz is quite usable and that’s what Melvin plays. Well 5, and 6, and 7 string basses.
