New bass question

Hey Tbers, I'm getting this bass in trade tomorrow and was wondering if anyone here had any info. I was told it came from a custom builder in Tennessee. Any help on id would be appreciated

It's custom alright. Looks like a china knock-off neck that's been defretted, filled, and glossed, and a body curtousey of Home Depot, Balance of donor parts from said knock-off.

That was my thoughts as well, I won't know quality til I see it. I'm not expecting much out of it.

You might like it, but I'm guessing those parts came from a no-name import. The body is defenitely consruction grade pine.

I'm not sure, but I wasn't asking alot in terms of value for the trade so if it's playable I'll be happy.

If it’s too heavy you can remove a bout or two. If it neck dives you can strap an ankle weight to it.

I don’t see any evidence there that that fingerboard was defretted and filled. Otherwise I think you’re 100% on the money.

The good news is that those import necks seem to be generally well regarded (for what they are) so the OP might end up with something fun to play even if it’s not especially valuable.

Thanks for all the responses, I agreed to the trade based on the cool factor. Im not expecting much out of it. I'm only trading a cheap Geetar amp for it so nothing major. I'll update tomorrow when I have it in my hands.

I agree. It has a sort of steam punk vibe.

Edit: I’m from TN, and have never seen the like. No help there.
