New bass.

Hi guys.
For start - I'm new into bass guitars. At the moment I have Yamaha RBX270j bass in my equipment. I want to go for another one.
For now I stopped at this one - Invalid Link Removed .

I'm thinking to spend on bass around 500$.
Will it be better them my Yamaha?

Yes, That will be an excellent bass. ESP is highly under-rated, one of the best values out there. I think they're a far better bass than the Ibanez's that most people recommend around here (i own one of each, both retailing around the 400 dollar range, and the ESP is simply a better instrument in my opinion.)

The only thing about the particular model you're looking at, is that it will be extremely neck heavy. if you must have the "metal" look, may I recommend looking at the F series instead? they're far more well balanced and comfortable, and still look very metal. You might even be able to find one with a 3 band EQ in that price range.

Otherwise, as I said, the EX should be a fine bass, but keep in mind the neck dive.

Edit: if you're not aware, the terms neck dive, and neck heavy, refer to the fact that when the bass is on the strap, and you let go of it, the head of the bass tends to fall towards the ground. something with a long upper horn generally balances much better.

The controls on the Ex are volume, balance (allows you to have both pickups even, or to have one favored), bass (low frequencies) and treble (high frequencies). The three band EQ is the same thing, but with an added mid-range control, between the bass and treble controls. Basically, allows you to make more adjustments to your tone right from the bass.

And what with sound in general? How much better F series is than EX? I listened to samples in thomann and admit F sounded better, but maybe they cheated on samples or something because of price. (I don't say it has to be this way, just saying)

*EX looks awesome, and it will be great to have bass that looks different from other.
