New Bassenstein Project

So I've finally decided that it's time to get a new bass. I've been playing a poor man's Ibanez GSR200 since I was 12 (now 22). Don't get me wrong, I honestly think it's a great instrument. The range of sounds I could get with that thing was unreal, especially for such low priced gear. Also, I tend to live by the philosophy of "blame the player, not the instrument." By that same notion, I'm not looking to replace it with something expensive. It looks like I'll be getting a Fender Modern Player Jaguar. Great reviews, very affordable, and it feels/sounds great too! Anyway, since I'll have a new bass, I've decided to sup-up my Ibanez for fun.

Here's the deal, the Phat-II bass boost (the pot with the circuit board) has been busted for years, so I tried to fix it the other day. I did a pretty creative soldering job since I'm pretty new to it and now NOTHING works. I think i fried the circuit board lol. Now, since the preamp is probably garbage plus pickups are a decade old, I think I should update them. I'll need a new set of P style pickups and a J style pickup. The preamp it came with is active and had 2 volume (1 for each pickup), 1 tone, and 1 bass boost pot knobs. Any advice?

If you want passive, EMG Geezer Butler PJ, skip the bass boost. If you want active, EMG PJ's with a BQC preamp. Of course, there are plenty of options and you'd be wise to check them out as well, but those would be my choices.
