My new Codabow Infinity bow arrived yesterday from Shar Music. Having already the "Revelation" model, which I like but needs rehaired, I had high expectations for the Infinity.

Sadly... it had been haired too tightly in my estimation (couldn't loosen the hair sufficiently), and I actually didn't like it as much as the Revelation. So I'm now waiting on Shar to get back to me with a return authorization.

I took the Revelation today for rehairing. At St. Louis Strings, I asked to see some nice German bows and ended up purchasing a "Krutz CW" bow for $390. "Krutz" is of course Anton Krutz, the master of KC Strings. This bow has a carbon-fiber core clad in pernambuco. I liked it as much as the two-and-three-thousand bows I was shown, and the woman (very helpful) who demoed the bows agrees. Great service!

Full disclosure: I am a relative novice with the stick of pain. Still, it's gratifying to have learned enough to know good from not good.

This is over a year later, but I haven’t found much in the way of reviews on the Krutz CW bow. Since I currently use the Revelation, I was curious what you like about the Krutz. Does the pernambuco outer skin darken the sound somewhat? I like the Revelation, but wouldn’t mind finding a carbon fiber bow that was a bit less bright. Thanks for any insights you can pass along.

Don, I can't know what the pernambuco skin does to the sound, but I do find the sound I get from the Krutz to be a little darker than that of the Revelation.
