Double Bass NEW BOW!!!

Find out what the finish is before you polish it. A fine bow might have a hand rubbed drying oil finish like tung oil or boiled linseed. I have used Bri-wax on my inexpensive bows (the finish on these was water soluble!). A tung oil finish is easily renewed, but you should approach this on a valuable bow with extreme care and caution. The same is true if it has a shellac finish. First thing is to know which one it is. 2nd thing is to accomplish finish work without affecting the hair. Given that the frog is off, I guess the hair is pretty safe.

What kind of frog are you going to fit?

if you mean like style? french, its perfectly weighted( we tried out the bow with one of his dads old frogs), if it wasnt i would have said german, I need to ask him about the finish I guess, Im going to transplant my old bows frog onto the new bow tonight and rehair it to see how it feels

Hey, you live practically around the corner from me. I'm in Haddon Heights. The bow was made by Bob Riccardi, not Rob. I've meet Bob on a few occassions, I was very sorry to learn of his passing. He was a really nice man and fine orchestral bassist. After playing in the Baltimore Symphony for many years, he was the principle bassist in the Pennsylvania Ballet orchestra for something like 30 years. Maybe you'll get to check out his cornerless bass sometime.:D He claimed it was a DaSalo from the 1590's. I don't know, but it was one incredible sounding instrument.

What do you do? Your profile says you're 15. That seems a little young to have a "boss".

Well, if someone wants to see the Riccardi Bass, it now belongs to me!;)

As far as a maker or date, The D'Salo name was replaced by the Rogeri name which was replaced by the Storioni name. Probably none of these makers made the Bass but Storioni was the name on it when I got it. We all just call it the "Riccardi Bass' as it was best known.

Sound-wise, it can match any name in the Book as far as I'm concerned! :cool:

haha, well the reason for my saying made by robert is due to the fact its stamped robert, and I did not know him so I did not know he went by rob, Im going to rob(jr.)'s mothers house with him soon to play some of his fathers other basses, rob(jr.) showed me some of the things his father made, and its truly an honor to be working with rob(jr.) Iam learning so much and it seems to have given me the sickness, today I spent 4 hours making a frog just to do it haha

I have two Frogs from my Loveri Bows that were Broken in shipment. I saved the Frogs. If and when you come to see the main Riccardi Bass, ask about the Frogs. They are nice Frogs and they also have the Hair left attached. The broken Sticks are free with the salvaged Frog.
