Have you guys seen these basses? They actually look pretty awesome! I've owned two basses from Rondo but moved them on as trades for other gear. But the blue...it looks like a keeper.

I used to have one like the top one, except a 6 stringer. What got my attention is the new preamp on the bottom 2. Brice basses are really nice, but when I got my Brice Z6, the HXB became redundant.
But with this new pre, I might be interested again.

I had a Brice 6 string fretless for awhile. Well made, some mwah going on but electrics weren't anything to write home about. Traded it, what the hell was i thinking? me playing a fretless 6!

1) The price difference between 2 & 3 band EQ is almost zero from OEM builders.
2) Probably a warehouse full of bodies pre-drilled for pickup selectors.

The upgrade is a 3 band EQ vol/blend active/passive switch. They described it wrong, check out the wiring diagram.
I've always been interested in trying one (fanned fret), theirs is not a bad price to get started with them.
The Oceanburst finish is really nice. Looks like a good value for a upgrade project.
Rondo has been making the 2 band bubinga veneered Brice models for a decade now. The 4 stringer my brother had was very good for the money but not amazing.
That said, the Oceanburst is a real looker though and if the new EQ turns out to be a sonic upgrade and sounds good in passive then you've got quite a bargain quite a bargain. Plus, IIRC the pickups are fairly standard shape so if the construction is good (and Brice basses usually are) you can put most any electronics and pups in there.

I got a flyer today that had 3 or 4 HXB2's that were 5 & 6 stringers and SS (30"). That seems like a lot of tension on the neck (shipping with a .128 B). I don't know how well a B string would even reproduce those low frequencies being that short. Not too mention getting stings. Is there much of a choice in short scale 5 & 6 string sets.? I don't know if they are even made but I haven't seen any medium scale versions. Seems like a pretty big jump from a choice between a 30" or a 35"
I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know where these are being made? Are they MIC or MIK?

I assume it's meant to be tuned B-E-A-D-G-C, not down an octave E-A-D-G-B-E, since the bottom string listed is so humungous. Shot them an e-mail and will probably get an answer soon, if past experience is any guide.
I ended up never getting one but I think NYXLs come in medium gauges and light top/Medium bottoms. I was thinking these were “tenor tuned” up to E-C but I could be wrong. I think they’re also MIC...I think lol.

2) The Brice models ship with LaBella strings (Labella 760 RHBB-CB Stainless Round Wound Short Scale Bass Set). The gauges listed for the HXB-406 3/4 are .030 .050, .065, .080, .100, .118
3) The LaBella strings are listed as a short scale string, but they are made for the HXB model's string through body.
