New build! another pine body/ oak neck!

Dave, you're a pretty big inspiration. Obviously this sort of work isn't easy, but you sure make it look like it. Need to keep adding to the tool collection, and I'll definitely do this one day.

Always add, always learn. most of my tools are non-electronic hand-tools (excluding sanding and routing, of course). I don't know what it is, but it's a lot more gratifying to do things truly by hand.
 
Great looking bass! Beautiful grain on the body.

Seeing as this is bolt on, what about adding a truss rod and a (maybe purpleheart?) skunk stripe? (if the lack of a truss rod is really an issue...

That is a wonderful idea for a skunk-stripe, but honestly I have no idea how I'd do it. do you just rout the length of the neck and put the truss running through the heel-side?

I have no idea how it's done either! I just love to see the work done here, I've never done anything myself...

I figured that's the way the fender basses with maple neck/fretboards get their trussrod... since you've already glued the fretboard and added the frets, maybe routing from behind the neck could get the truss rod in there?
 
jmorbita's suggestion sounds like a cool one! I suppose what you could do is work out the depth of the fingerboard, then fix it to your workbench, and then make a jig to run your router down that cuts into the neck from the back. Provided the jig's straight and perfectly in line with the centre of the neck, all you'd have to do then is make a 'sled' for the router, set the depth of the cutting bit, and away you go!

After that, all you'd need to do is make your 'stripe', and an access hole for the adjustment nut at whichever end you chose.

Could you please post some sound samples?

I love this bass, going to do a 4 string pine body oak neck soon. I love the out of the box wood choices!

My wife brought me home a huge board last night, must be 10 feet long, 2.5" thick and 14" wide. I don't know how she carried it home! I was bummed when I saw it was pine, I thought pine wouldn't work for a bass, now I'm stoked.

It might sound like a dumb question but the body doesn't flex? I was worried pine would bow under string pressure.
