New club - The "I Should Have Just Bought a P-Bass and Stopped" Club

I started playing Jazz basses because, coming from a guitar background, I thought you **had** to have two pickups. Then I got a Carvin LB20, still two pickups, then a G&L Tribute L2000 (yeah, two pickups) and finally I landed a '51 P RI and a Classic '50s P. End of story (except that I also have an AVRI '57 P, a Godin A5 fretless and a MM SR5 -- all with single pickups).

Right now I am playing my '51 relentlessly and I couldn't be happier.

I don't usually "get" clubs but this one makes sense... It took me about 35 years of being an anti-Precision "snob" before I realized the simple, minimalist genius of the design and the awesome tone with flatwounds.

Not asking to join, just applauding the idea.

I'm in.

While I have a few nice basses, when it's time to gig, especially if I know it's going to be a tough mix, the bass I want is my P bass. While not a Fender, it's about as P bass as a P bass can be.

I truly believe my P could cover any type of music I want to play.

I was just about to post the same video. Very cool. It's amazing how the subtle differences that we all spend so much time discussing and arguing about really end up making little difference in the full mix. Here's the version he did with the bass(es) isolated, where the differences are much more apparent:

It would seem to me that the P bass pickup is the great equalizer, the round wound strings are slightly more defined but its subtle at best, in a live setting you probably wouldnt notice much difference. My favorite was the 73 P with 17 year old labella flats.
