New Cort Headless Bass

When I used to have an ehb1265ms that had Bart BH2 pickups and I changed to Nordstrand Big Splits it actually dropped the weight about 7 ounces.
However, not sure if this bass model is equipped with Bart BH2's

In case another Ibanez offering may interest you, because of the woods used, be aware that the ehb1265's (closer to 8 pounds) are generally about a pound heavier than the 1005's and 1505's (closer to 7).

@robassable 8.3lbs on a scale. If you have a shoulder issue, consider the Ibanez. In your case the extra weight reduction could be well worth it. This bass is fairly light but it's still noticeable on your left shoulder after a few songs. Maybe it's the way it sits more squarely on your body, not sure.
Much appreciated. 20 years ago, an extra pound or two would be negligible, but all the wear and tear at age 69 and still playing out, cutting every ounce counts, so sounds like I am sticking with Ibanez. Another thing I have come to appeciate about my ehb1005 (upgraded with Aguilar pu's), and headless basses in general, is the weight distribution benefit: no headstock to tip the balance towards your fretting hand, so less shoulder strain.

I've had the Space5 for over a year now, and have become increasingly dis-satisfied with the bass tone - its a bit too modern and harsh. Also some have noted that the volume needs to be almost full to get a decent level out of it.

The various talk forums around the web have said the MK1 Bartolinis are ok but the (Markbass) preamp is where the problem is.

I've decided to do an upgrade - and install the EMG E series E5W pickups ( they are new).

Why EMG ? - my 35 YO Steinberger has EMGs in it ( factory standard ) and I like the simplicity that the preamps are built into the pickups and the controls are passive V -V - T - wide open its wide and clear - wind the tone down and you have a reggae monster - roll of the tone off a little bit and you have clarity but smooth.

Anyway I've only just ordered them so they'll take a week or two to get here, but I'll report back when I get them installed.

The EMG pickups arrived nicely packaged in foam rubbber.

I started the install by removing the strings from the bridge and then removing the pickups

I noted that the foam blocks and springs in the pickup cavity were going to foul on the EMG pickup connections, so I removed them in preparation of moving them towards the centre of the pickup. I later decided to remove the springs, and just rely on the foam rubber.

I removed all of the existing electronics, pots and wiring, including the battery box

There's also a wire from the bridge - probably for earthing.

This is the preamp - its not mounted to anything

I then mounted the pots, ran the wiring to the pickups, carefully followed the instructions connecting it all up.

I found the earth wire to the 1/4" socket was too short and had to fire up the soldering iron to lengthen it, I also connected that earth wire from the bridge and with some clear heatshrink tube extended the wire to the 1/4 " jack socket.

I tested it and then put the cover back on - ( if you put the cover back on and then test it, you jinx it! )

and there you go! - EMG powered Space 5
