I just got this from a store that purchased it at NAMM:

I blocked the serial number on purpose. This is a great playing bass and I haven't been able to put it down since I got it yesterday. I traded my Cirrus BXP and my Millennium AC BXP for it. I'll post more of a review tomorrow when I have more time.

Now that I have spent some time playing this puppy here is the review:

Construction: The construction on this bass is excellent with nary an imperfection to be found anywhere.

Specs:
# 35 inch scale
# Neck-thru-body
# 2 VFL™ active pickups
# Active 3-band EQ with +/- 10 dB boost/cut
# Black hardware
# Milled ABM™ multi-adjustable bridge
# Pau Ferro fretboard
# Graphite reinforced neck with dual expanding truss rod
# HipShot Xtender for Drop-D tuning
# Just under 8lbs

Sound: The bass when EQ'd flat has a warm full sound. If I bump up the mids just a bit I get a nice growl on top of that warmth. Bumping up the bass gives me a nice fat low-end. The notes are very articulate regardless of the EQ settings. In fact, extreme EQ is quite usable on this bass though I have no real need to do that.

Feel: This bass has an amazing neck. The flat radius makes it perfect for my hands and allows me to play with a great deal of dexterity. Because the bass is so light I don't have to worry about shoulder aches and just focus on playing.

Friday I am playing out with it but I don't expect any surprises. I haven't been this happy about a bass in a long, long time (do you believe that Dr Cheese? :p).

I have had two other USA Cirrus'. The first one was Mahoganey with a Wenge neck which had a really nice warm and growly sound. The other was Alder with maple neck/board which was clear and bright. By comparison the Ash is more full sounding and more articulate than the Mahoganey (which I really liked by the way) and is warmer than the Alder/Maple. Of all three basses this one is the most articulate with good representation across the sound spectrum. Although I wouldn't hesitate to get another Mahoganey Cirrus I think this one is a real keeper.

Is your Bubinga a USA Cirrus or the BXP?

Mine is a USA made Cirrus. I love the bubinga top over the mahogany body and the neck-thru stripes are marvelous.

Hmm, you know, that ash Cirrus with a 7-layer maple/walnut neck would look awesome. The light side woods would contrast nicely with the neck stripes. The black hardware would still look awesome......

Crap, do I need to order a custom Cirrus? Maybe a five stringer..... :hmm:
