New Demeter bass power amp.

"days on end" is right...... I wonder if I would get a perverse sense of satisfaction powering my Berg cab with a QSC amp after having read thru pages of those arguments.... FWIW I have a lot respect for both those guys and I like the irony.

Agreed. I actually partook in some of those battles. I started out on Jim's side but finally realized Bob was right. Though I like Jim's style better so if he ever needed his back covered in a fight right or wrong I'd be there to back him up.

Hi all. I just started working with James Demeter (I'm a web designer & reworked the Demeter site), and came upon this thread. It sounds like there's a bit of confusion with Demeter's Bass pre/power amps.

To clarify, the Bass 1000 is a Class H, 1000 watt RMS power amp that is currently not on the market. It uses an oversized linear power supply and sounds great, but is still in development and is still fairly bulky (35 pounds & 2 rack spaces).

Finishing the Bass 1000 has taken a back seat here at Demeter, as we recently completed the integration of a Class D power amp with our VTBP-201 & HBP-1 Bass preamplifiers. They weigh a helluva lot less (11 pounds), sound amazing and still put out 800 watts RMS @ 4 ohms. Check out our Bass Amplification Product Page if you're interested. I hope this clarifies some of the mystery with the Bass 1000. The guys here at Demeter are way more into the audio/tech aspect then the marketing aspect of the business, so i'm going to try and lurk around these forums and help answer any questions that may arise.

Um...AWESOME!! I used to rock a '201s but got tired of lugging a rack setup. This might change things for me...

Yeah, the nice thing about this setup is that the pre is perfectly coupled with the power amp through a pair of Jensen transformers...so although the Class D amp is solid state, it's running through some fairly colorful transformers which allow the output to retain the 'tube' characteristics. It should actually sound better than a 201 coupled with a separate power amp. If you still have your 201, we can mod it and add the power section. (it stays a single rack space!)

I think you've got your priorities right.
You know what sounds good and how to make it sound good. I'm sure you wouldn't put your name on an amp that didn't deliver the sound, even if it is lighter.

No need to say "although the Class D amp is solid state". Class-D is bonus, and nothing to apologize for. You'll know by your boost in sales.

i'm using the Stewart 1.2 to power my HBP-1! it's Class H and sounds amazing, but a retrofit might be sexy for the right price.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. We've been doing the retrofits for 800 bones, which includes a 1 year warranty on the mod. If you have any technical questions, you can reach the designer, James Demeter, at 805-461-4100; although I'll try to answer any other questions I can.

As far as the DNS settings....I know the redirect thing is a bit annoying. We're only doing that temporarily until we are 100% sure that the new site is working perfectly (just in case we need to remove the redirect and reopen the old store). Most likely it was down because GoDaddy is hosting the site, and they have a tendency to swing up and down (we're looking into changing hosts as well).

Interesting comment about adding weights to the website...I'll look into that; makes sense for guitar & bass equipment eh?

It's imperative that weights be listed. You might want to check the thread around here that has suggestions for manufacturers websites. We really like to know all the scoop not just part of it.

I already had the Jensen transformer mod (pretty recently) to protect it from poorly regulated phantom power in house systems. Does that change the price at all?

Demeter is really missing the boat not putting their pre together with a lightweight class D poweramp, not sure why they don't want to make that jump with many people moving away from heavy rack systems.

Unfortunately that ship sailed a bit late for me.... I moved on to a Shuttlemax after playing 201 and 201S pre's for 19 years. Sold off my 201S over two month ago.

Great preamps, I'm sure it sounds great with the class D. Hope they do well with the new options.
