there's a new release, which should be widely available in the next few days, of a session with pianist steve rudolph, with drummer phil haynes and drew gress. we caught them playing a live date together just after they recorded this, and i've really been looking forward to the results ... well, it's [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].
steve is a fine player, heavily influenced by bill evans, very melodic. phil has a very painterly approach to the drums, and together with drew they've created one of the most beautiful records of "standards" that i've heard in a long time.
it's exquisitely recorded, too.
