I see that EBMM has introduced two new, passive models called the Caprice and Cutlass. The link below has a couple, very close photos of these new basses but no photos showing the whole thing. Am I missing a link or something? Would be nice to see these new basses...my hope is that they mirror the more classic, conservative vibe of the Sabre.

Here's the old Music Man Cutlass II & I (L to R).. Of course, the Cutlass I is basically a StingRay, but I like the II's Sabre vibe on it's own merit. Seems the old ones had graphite necks?

If you click the link provided be the OP, the close-up photos look like one bass has a split-coil P-style pickup, and the other has a single coil in the bridge position.
This reminds me of a post from about a month or two ago where the question was asked why EBMM don't do J and P style basses...well there you have it.

That's how I remember the Cutlass model: it was that is was essentially a Sabre or Stingray body with a graphite neck.

If Fender can build a Stingray (Dimension), it looks like EBMM is building a Precision and Jazz.

Look at that! Boat anchor weight Fender clones! Leo would probably poop a brick if he saw how much crossover there was between MM and Fender! MM's with P and J pickups, Fender's with humbuckers. Pure madness.

I don't actually give a poop. I just think it's hilarious that the cool new thing from MusicMan is a P/ PJ bass, and a 4 string bass with a 5 string pickup.

I played a fender PJ the other day and I couldn't believe the unbalance between the two PU's volume wise

I am generally a fan of EBMM instruments, but I have zero interest in these. Between these new models and their cutting all interesting colors from their catalog, I am not impressed with EBMM in 2016. I was expecting more based on the great things they have done in previous years.

Looks good to me. I'm sure I'll be looking at P-type basses at some point in the future so I'm sure I'll be checking out the Cutlass.

YES YES YES!

This is exactly what I have been hoping for - a passive EBMM bass. That Caprice looks so cool. I've been playing EBMM basses for years now because of the excellent build quality and superb oil/wax finished necks - I just love the necks. But I've never been a fan of the pre-amp. Which I know probably sounds weird to a lot of EBMM fans, but that's just me. I don't usually use the pre-amp at all, but I still have to keep batteries in the bass, or it will quit on me.

I hope that Caprice has a pickup blend knob, that would be perfect. Or V/V/T. Would open up a lot of between-pickup-positions that I can't get on my Sterling HS or Stingray HS basses.

I'm very excited, this is awesome!

Looking objectively, I think they look cool. You know they will be built well. If I needed a P or a P/J.

The Caprice is interesting to me. I've been debating building a Warmoth with P/J pickups and a Jazz body but if the Caprice sounds good, is reasonably priced, and is offered in more colours than the one photo that we have I will definitely consider it.

That PJ is sexy as hell.

If the weight/balance are right and the price is reasonable you can sign me up for one.

I know lots of people are making fun of MM copying Fender, but this is the first earnie ball bass I've gotten excited about since the bongo.
