Well everyone, here I am gasing for a new cab just because I got a new amp, damn! Anyways, I'm looking to replace my SVT-410HLF with something a little tighter sounding, and somewhat efficient. My V-4 sounds awesome, and I just can't see myself replacing it. What cab do you guys recommend with this head? Do Eden's sound good with the V-4? I'm looking for something efficient, and somewhat affordable. Please share your thoughts. I'm also thinking about getting a sealed cab, I think I may enjoy the tightness a little more.

New Efficient Cab for my V-4?

rugaar uses his V4 w/ an Avatar 2x12 and I think he is very pleased with it. I've tried mine with my Orange 1x15 and liked it quite a lot albeit it was at a fairly low volume Beatle jam. I would love to try it with one of the Berg cabs like the 2x15.
Kappalite 3015's huh, any older enclosures that those are compatible with? I was even considering what johnk did and buy an old V-4 Cab and put Eminence Neo's in it. I bought my SVT-410HLF because I love low end, but I feel like the sound I really love is the low mids, and I think a sealed cab will do these better. I know the Ampeg 410HE doesn't get too much love around here, but I can't make an opinion because I've never used one.
Bergantino? I know Tom Bowlus has raved about several of Jim's designs with tube amps.
Doesn't Markbass offer some sealed cabs? They may even be Neos as well
The Ampeg 8x10e (or 4x10e - I believe that one's sealed) are classic choices.

i use an ampeg V4 4x12 (guitar cab) loaded with four Eminence Deltalite 2512-II's and it sounds great with my V4B (or my SVT). its very efficient, doesn't fart out and puts out a ton of volume. it weighs 65 lbs which isn't too bad for a 4x12cab. here's a pic of it:
Same here. I'm looking for something on the modestly sized side, like a 2X12.
If you don't mind the weight of a 410 and have the cash, I think the Berg NV610 is the slam-dunk choice. I haven't tried that cab with the V-4B I just got, but I've tested one with my Walkabout head and it was a punch machine--I can't imagine it not killing with a V-4B.

You could probably load up an Avatar 4x12 with Neo speakers for somewhere around that too.
I have a sealed 4x10, its an ampeg B40 which was originally sold with the b40 amp in the late 70s. Basically the cab is like half of a straight back 8x10, originally came with four CTS 32 ohm square mag speakers but I replaced them with some eminences for a little more mid response. I definitely like a sealed cab with this head, and definitely something w/o a tweeter (mostly because I use a bunch of effects which can be a little harsh through a tweeter).
Lately I've been using my drummer's 72 ampeg 8x10 which has a lot more bottom than my cab (plus some added volume) so I'd agree that a sealed 8x10 would be awesome, but as you said you don't want one of those I'd say a sealed 4x10 or 4x12. I really love the look of JohnK's modded 4x12, and I'm sure the sound is just as good.

yeah, the cab sounds great for any style of music. they have ALOT of punch, and four 12's puts out alot of low end if you want it without getting muddy. i have three of these cabs (one is in the talkbass classifieds right now (it has the original 12's in it). i might be selling another one since i have so many cabs right now. (my other one has heavy duty stock speakers in it). all of them sound really good for bass.

thanks. i got the egg crate foam from target, but i think that walmart has the same stuff for a little less. (target is just alot closer to me). they call it mattress topper.
Yeah, Get a vintage V4 412 cab. I followed John's advice and did just this. I've only heard it at moderately high volumes bc it stil had the original speakers in it, but it sounded amazing. I couldn't afford the Neo's and John suggested the Eminence 12-A 2s. You can currently get them on Ebay for around $65! They haven't come in yet.
If the intended V4 cab didn't work well that'd be one thing. But since it does, having the matching cab is bad@ss you have to admit. WHen your amp looks this cool, why not go ahead and make it as cool as possible?

MAte- I use my V4BH(I know it aint quite a V4) but it's a 100w all tube Ampeg MIA amp & a beauty.= I use it thru a Bergantino NV610 sealed cab. It's lighter, FAR easier to move, louder, tighter, & just PLAIN BETTER than the SVT410HLF- of which I used to own. Damn they're TANKS of cabs the -SVT410HLF!!!!!! SO difficult to move/lift. The NV610 -sealed is SO good with the V4. It's pretty damn efficient also & I get that Amp the loudest when I use that cab. Sweet growl of the tubes right at their sweet spot too!! Superb combination. Best I've tried.

to me, the SVT410-HLF is a really nice cab. it has to be one of the better sub-freq bass cabs out there (it has tons of low end). some feel that it is muddy, but i am not one of those that do. i like them for what they are. and with a lower powered head like a V4B, it works very well since you can cut some of you bass control on the amp, sparing more headroom for the mid bass and mid freqs. but personally, i think that the V4 4x12 with a V4 head is a match made in heaven both sonically and physically. i hear of alot of people on talkbass talk about playing thru their 2x12 cabs and loving them (i have a 2x12 cab as well), but having FOUR twelves really kicks butt having twice the cone area in a sealed cab.
