the trouble with buying all in one packages is that every component is a compromise and in the end you will have
to replace it all and sell what you have at lawn sale prices......better to buy the best instrument you can afford for now
and save for an amp....you can usually find used practice amps for very little if you are not in a mad rush to buy.......imho

Read the comments. Depending on the final manufacturing details you might get an OK or not so OK bass (things get loose, screws drop out and so on...). That's what low-end is, no guarantees on the final quality. Anyway, it's a cheap way to start, but expect to upgrade after a while. --Kent

....because I am going to college, I want to start like a college band or something.

Making a decent bass sound decent takes a lot of air movement.
Getting an amp with at least 100w and 1x15" speaker would seem to be a minimum to me.

To the OP, don't worry about Jazz versus P bass. They're both equally good to start with, it's just that some people here on TB are obsessed with Jazzes. Don't take them too seriously.

FWIW I think the suggestions above about an SX (Jazz or P, whichever) combined with a Nemesis combo amp, were really good suggestions, much better than any pre-packaged beginner pack.

The OP posts lead me to think that this whole thread revolves around getting music123.com and GC some eyeballs looking at their cheap "packages".

I'm just sayin....seems there's quite a few new bassists that need equipment just starting out. There's a whole bunch of practically new stuff on Craigslist for sale...why not go there?
