Double Bass New Evah Pirazzi slap strings from Pirastro!

I'm very curious to check out what Nic came up with. His previous strings by Cordes Lambert came out very well and I really enjoyed them when I was still playing ply basses. This new set will probably go better with a carved top than those plastic ones did.

Had them on my Bryant Lott for a couple of weeks, settled in now. I'm very impressed actually. I've been playing guts for years so the G and D are just what I've expected. Took a few sessions to get used to A and E. I was playing a raw gut A before, but now that the Evah slap A has settled, it is actually a pleasure to play. Just a tad more sustain for pizz and the metal on the slap clicks is not intrusive. The E was a bit quiet at first as I transitioned from an old steel string. Initially I thought I would swap it for something with higher tension and more presence, but I think I was wrong: as the string settled and I got used to it, I can get plenty definition from it, although obviously one should forget any Spiro mitt expectation.
The tension is like a set of guts with wrapped A and E, obviously that's no scientific statement, just based on the way I feel when playing them.
The price is probably a bit of an investment if you are a high volume slap guy, but for me it hits the spot, actually representing a saving from my usual all gut, or GDA gut set.
All in all, I'm keeping the Evah slap and making it my default for the time being. In fact, though I have newish guts on my Chadwick, I may order an Evah slap A and and E for it too.

Iv'e had the slaps for just a day, and I'm liking them. The name might be too narrow. Excellent all round gut set. Strong loud gut pizz on D&G. The E&A are different from other EP sets. Very well matched- all 4 strings. More thump... less sustain. They sound great amplified!I want to hear how they record now. For the last year I have been using vey old Spiro Orchs w/ Olive G on this bass. The Slaps are the polar oppisite but so far... I'm digging them.

Just under a month on my Bryant, the Evah slap are now totally settled in. I'm still of the same opinion and they are a great set of guts. The key is that the synthetic wrapped A and E are very well balanced and they don't make me miss the real gut bottom strings I had in the past. This is a substantial advantage money-wise. I agree the name is a little underwhelming because it's true that they are also a great pizz string. Still, it is for slap players that these strings really excel, so I think that Pirastro did the right thing emphasising their slap-friendly qualities. If I were purely a pizz player, playing a bit of everything, I may want a tad more sustain on the E string. Just my opinion.

Im bringing my Upton Std Ply into the shop this week for her (6 year!) checkup.

Have had Spiro Mitts since the start. Tried Evah Med & Evah Lt, but no love, so went back to Spiros. Currently trying the EA Spiros with DG Obli's for the last few weeks... Meh. Feels good but like others have re[ported the Obli's vanish in the mix next to the Spiro's.

Looking for something softer on the hands, a bit fatter and warm. 100% Pizz on gigs, Arco for practice but would like to bring the bow on stage at some point, so string bowability is needed but not primary. Playing Blues, Swing, Roots / Americana. Mostly amplified. Electric guitars, drums and sometimes horns. Bitch of it is that by the time I get it loud enough to settle into the mix, I may as well have my Fender and save the schlep-age. Other side of the coin is that the volume helps to hide my crap technique & intonation.

I like the descriptions of Garbo and Anima, but shy away re; durability.

Thinking I might have these Evah Slaps put on while on the bench.

Your thoughts would be welcome.

Hi PaperbackRider,

Better get a set of Compas 180 (regular) if you want a loud string with a soft touch that is bowable. Bowing is a bit tricky, but if you can delay bowing on stage until you get comfortable in practicing they are probably the best decision for Velvet strings.
But you might get Spiro Solos downtuned instead and don't worry about durability at all.

I've had mine on the Kay for a couple of weeks now. Had been using various strings to match up with gut G and D for years, but this is by far the best match. This bass is at its best with light tensions strings. It's boomy, a little tubby, and fat, which is what it is supposed to be.

I think the set is great for any rootsy style, and for me, straight ahead as well although I don't think they would suit most people's taste for that.

The E and A are definitely different from the other EP sets, all of which I have tried.

Edit, this bass really amplifies well with these strings. Pretty accurate. That's with the realist lifeline, directly into AI Contra.

You might like the white LaBella's 7710's. I think they are a great pizz string.
