Double Bass New Evah Pirazzi slap strings from Pirastro!

Well after a lot of research I pulled the trigger and ordered a set of Evah weich strings for my upton hybrid superswing.
Im looking to this. Can these string fire up my bass? We will see.

Bumpity bump for the Pirazzi Slap thread, i think im sold after a good read through this thread, and will be calling @Mark Gollihur this week to order a set.

If anyone is interested in how the Evah Slaps work amplified, here is a tune where my bass is recorded only via direct out from an Acoustic Image amp. It would be better of course if there was a mic , or a mix of the two sounds, because the true acoustic sound is excellent. But, it is a very natural amplified tone -- granted Acoustic Image is good for that too.
The bass is Kolstein Panormo model, and bass and drums start at 2:45 into the video, before that is all keyboards.

I just uploaded a quick recording session to Soundcloud you might be interested in hearing. The bass is strung with Dlug G, Gamut D, and Evah Slap A&E, all about a year old with pretty consistent and varying playing. I play arco and pizz on Trump Card, pizz on the other two.
They were recorded using two ribbon mics I built from kit (very similar to the Troll) in Blumlein config. The group is bass, drums, tenor sax, and we recorded three of my original tunes in the drummer's practice cave. This was my first time trying this recording setup and and we only had time for a take or two of each song so there be hair in dem bass parts.
I'm proud of the tunes, I like the way it sounds overall, and the performances are vibey.

definitely Thanks for posting these! nice stereo ribbon tracking sound and actually really showcased what i was hoping o hear out if these strings on the bass. Except that when i listen to it i feel like i AM the drummer.

So whatsu, anyone else got anyting to say about the Evah Pirazzi Slaps?

I know this is an ancient thread, but I have a question regarding the E and A Evah Pirazzi Slap strings: how well have they held up for everyone using them? I just bought the E and A from this set and I play 60/40 Slap/Pizz, pairing it with my Oliv D and G and I’m freaking loving it. I’ve had labella gut wound strings for the E and the A previously and messed around some with plain gut E and A strings too back in the day, but it was way too hard to maneuver such giant floppy strings - at lease IMO. I’ve also used nylon core strings (Supernils) before for the E and A and have had a lot of success with them but they tear up the fingerboard massively, hence my attempt to try these out. What are everyone’s thoughts on the durability of these strings?

I will warn you if you're doing slapping I fear for your olives. They may not do so well. the synthetic DG may be cool, but let us know about them. I'm curious. E and A should last you at least a year.

I’m trying something different here with the wrapped gut for the D and G, so I made sure to buy used Oliv strings from the TB forum to see how they do with the Rockabilly stuff. I love the way the wrapped gut sounds with the slap - it’s just warm and has such a great click on the fingerboard. A buddy of mine used to use a full set of Oliv and Eudoxa strings back in 90s/early 00s slapping and he loved them; but has since switched to the EP Slaps set with the synthetic E and A, and the plain gut D and G and he loves them. He echoes the sentiment about liking the synthetic D as well because it has such great sustain. He has also mixed a Pistoy Plain Gut A with the EP Slap E and the plain D and G and likes that setup too, but I don’t like the plain gut A string at all. I’ll let you all know how the Olivs hold up.

I bought multiple sets of these strings and used them for about 2 years. I got a year of extremely hard use out of the synthetic slap E, A, and D. The aluminum wrapped synthetic G would last 6 about months. I loved the slap EAD with the slap plain gut G also, probably the best gut value there is. Gollihur sells this mixed set.

I`m back with full set of synthetic slaps at the moment and loving it. For me this is the next best thing to plain GDA but without the floppiness, mushiness and finger skin eating twist of Pistoys. I think they`re more of a do it all old school -vibe hybrid string than slap oriented one trick pony. They have this low end presence of guts that I love to hear in the mix. I switched because I felt that i need more clarity, easier playability and more conventional modern arco tone.

About the durability, or lack of it, I slap only a very little but play lots of free impro stuff that gets pretty physical at times. The windings doesn`t like extended arco stick banging stuff at all, whereas plain guts and steels go like nothing ever happened. These are much more fragile. I got some idea about the life span when I replaced a spiro solo E with EP slap. The ADG had something like one month of playing time and the E ( which is the darkest string in that set anyway ) some 6 months. I`m still waiting for the set to fully settle, but the difference between the E and rest of the set is audible. The biggest question mark for me was, and still is the G string. It sounds cool but feels different to the rest of the set with it`s aluminum winding, and the black fingers thingy does suck IMHO. It plays americana really well but with aforementioned impro stuff I feel that it might explode any time. I`ve been playing Chorda, Chorda CH or 2,2mm Efrano G strings lately and could use some more projection and volume, this is more of a problem with acoustic than amplified playing though.

EP Slaps Update: I played an hour last night opening up for Jesse Dayton with my band and the synthetic E and A were amazing with the Oliv D and G. My tone was fat and the slap was perfect! It was my first official gig with my AI Clarus 2L Series 4 as well (thanks Ken Lloyd for selling me a great amp!) and I ran it through my big ass ‘73 Ampeg 810 and it sounded great (I’m still thinking of what cab to downsize to - the DoubleShot is my first choice, but I digress...). The set matches up perfectly together and my Pizz stuff sounded great too. I’m very pleased!
