Double Bass New Evah Pirazzi slap strings from Pirastro!

So far so good, the D & G settled in about 4 days for me. I personally like the Pirastro gut better than the Gamut gut by a little bit but I still think Damian Dlugolecki makes the best gut strings I've used.
As far as arco is concerned, my experience with these Evah strings is really positive. Bowed gut has a unique and different quality so the idea of it getting "nicer" is a hard thing to quantify. I personally really love the grittier, more organic sound but so much of the voice of a bowed bass is in the bass and bow. For my bass (laminated) these strings speak really well and give it a deeper, more dynamic sound with the bow. The one thing I can say is that the bowed sound won't fundamentally change that much so if it's not working for you, either the sound you have in your head will adapt and embrace the differences or you'll become more frustrated with the strings. It's really the dilemma of gut, some see the inherent qualities as something desirable and others see them as limitations.

Thanks for the advice Jeff! I've decided to stick with the the gut and really see if I can make it work. It's not fair to judge the string so quickly, so far the pizz and tuning stability is what I really wanted out of Olivs.

I should see how I feel about the arco after a month of practicing on these.

I've probably got 40-50 gigs on the full synthetic set so far, so I figured I'd give ya'll an update.

I still really enjoy the feel of these strings for pizz. Combined with my physical technique, I'm getting a nice, percussive, old school sound. It doesn't sound like gut, but through my rig the note envelope is similar enough to get what I want in the mix. I've been putting in a lot of work in thumb position lately, and these strings play pretty damn effortlessly up there. The big trade off is that they really don't have a lot of pop acoustically, and while I can pull a nice sound, its not the raw power of something like gut or Velvet Anima. If I had to do acoustic gigs often like I did in NYC, these would have been off my bass a while back. Something to consider.....

How does the D and G compare to velvet Blues? Had the blues and liked them, they were very loud on my bass and the tone was nice. Never tried the full synthetic D and G slap tho. I play 70/30 pizz and Arco.

I'd say the blues are louder (on my bass), brighter (though still warm and dark compared to Spiros), and thinner gauge. They also don't bow nearly as well, as seem a little tighter.

Love the E.P.S D. Coming from plain gut or Garbo D, the E.P has some qualities from both of those but it`s less " stringy " than Garbo, plays amazingly well everywhere on the fingerboard ( I don`t see that as flaw with plain gut, but like very much the thinner gauge ) like any Evah Pirazzi, tension is just right, arco is fantastic, fat old school pizz sound with enough gut-ish qualities, blends really well with plain gut. I can go Spirocores or E.P`s on lower strings and both works really well. I was looking for a bit less string-y tone with great playability , and this one delivers. Very happy!

I'm still liking my E.P. Slaps, but my nut slot wasn't wide enough for the G string, and it unwound. I think I'm going to use this as an opportunity to try a gut G with the synthetic slaps E-D. Even after a recent luither trip the particular bass I own has a pretty weak G string going up into thumb position, so I'm thinking about going gut again. I'm excited to hear the slap tone with the gut G, although I'll be back in gut arco land :/. I suspect the synthetic D string will be a really fantastic match, which is pretty important for me. I've always just given up on gut Ds in the past (including vintage / high end stuff) but haven't found a substitute that really matches the plain gut G, although the Velvet Garbo D gets close. I'm thinking about getting the gut Slap G to see how the set blends. Could anyone compare it to the original Chorda G? I always liked that string....

I'm really enjoying the EP gut G with the synthetic EAD.

Just got the string in the mail and strung it up.....it is a very nice match! The gauges are perfect, and my broken-in synthetics match the feel and tone of the plain gut G quite well, and the set as a whole has really opened up in thumb position. I'd go as far to say as I think a gut G is a better tonal match for the synthetic slap E-D than the synthetic G for pizz. To be fair, this could be me just being really used to gut strings. Arco, its obviously pretty different from the synthetics and I'll need to see if I can live with that. Lets see how my gig tonight goes....

Hey all. I've had the E and A strings on for about a year. does anyone have experience with the relative life span of these strings?
The volume seems to be going south quickly on mine. Not sure if it's the strings or something else, the gut G and D (raw gut) are ringing clear and true as ever. Even under the bow, the lower two are losing their luster. It could be something else with my rig, but I thought I'd ask in case anyone else has a similar experience.

Can anyone compare the Evah Slaps E+A with Eudoxas?
I like to pizz & slap old style with Eudoxa E+A and plain gut D+G, but my E was broken four days ago after one year of use... and now I'm thinking about the Evah Slaps... or maybe continue with a new Eudoxa... or try an Oliv (I haven't tried one yet)...
