This looks like an exact recreation of the late 80's / early 90's Jazz Bass Special, but in new color choices. The JBS was an evolution of the original Boxer series. Early JBS models came with a painted black neck, with choice of black, pewter, pearl white (Duff), and a dusty metallic red. Later models had a natural neck. Eventually, Fender remarketed the pearl white model as the Duff signature. I bought a JBS brand new in 1986 and still own it today. I'd say it's the one bass I'll take to the grave with me. Well, that and probably several others. Even the pharaohs brought along more than one servant to the afterlife.

Hm... I guess they must be cool if you want that kind of 80s vibe but to me they are ugly as sin. I'm a P-bass nut but a P-bass without a pickguard... not for me.
To me they look more or less like the kind of basses people almost give away for free these days, only they would have Yamaha or something else on the headstock.
Having said that, MIJ Fenders are usually GREAT instruments. Generally better and much more consistent craftsmanship/QC than MIA Fenders in my experience. At least if you replace the pickups which are usually some "ok but not great" ceramics in MIJ Fenders. There are exceptions but in those cases the specs usually say USA/alnico/vintage pickups. But of course, the stock pickup might be great for all I know.

now if they released the dual- slanted P pickup model, I'd be in trouble
I was thinking the same thing when they announced the release. I need two replacement 'F' knobs for my bass.
12” radius but not roasted, Jumbo and not Narrow-Tall frets or at least Medium Jumbo... curious neck choices.
Would be nice to see what TBX version/specs are used and how a treble-bleed circuit could be optimized for bass (not guitar) frequencies.
High mass bridge and non-plastic knobs would have been nice at that price point.

Reminds me of a P-BASS LITE i borrowed from a good friend years ago. Played in church and was a cool bass! Looks like a winner to me.

It’s cool, but I’m not a huge fan of black hardware or the giant old school tuners and the unnecessary weight they add. If it was a MIM for $400 less, it’d be more tempting to me. It does look cool, though.
