It's not a Duff. It's a reissue of the Japan Jazz Bass Special. The Duff sig is based on that one too.
There should be a law, if a bass has a P pickup it should at least have a 1 5/8" nut.
I see that they’re offering cutting edge features like a “four saddle bridge”!

So here’s an honest question... I always thought the boxer series came out before the J bass special? They came in all the crazy different pickup combos. Than the J bass special and power special was kinda what came out of it. I always really loved boxer basses and found it strange how small of a blip on the Fender map they are. Was the J bass special considered part of the boxer line? Also... for all the dudes that want this with just the p pickups you can find them with not much effort. About 10 years ago I used to buy these things for like 250-450.
I'd say the JBS is a part of the boxer line. The JBS model number is PJ-555 and it's in the 84/85 boxer catalog.
Very steep price for a basswood P in New colors.
So how is this new? And basswood sucks. Way too soft. Look at it too long and it dents.
Nice to see these, and MIJ nonetheless. More colors would be nice. If I were in the market for a new fender I would be test driving for sure.

Initially these look cool, but basswood basses are a big turnoff for me. I would never intentionally but a basswood bass, as odd as that may sound.

So does swamp ash but I don't see many complaints about that. If it's real swamp ash grown in swamps/wetlands it's so soft that you can easily dent it with your fingernails. But a lot of people seem to think swamp ash = hard = good for guitars. Probably because a lot of "swamp ash" guitar aren't actually proper swamp ash but the harder varieties grown in other areas. But with ash people will actually pay MORE for the super soft variety.
There are many reasons why I wouldn't buy these Boxers but basswood isn't one of them. Some of my favourite basses are basswood. It's great wood with an undeservedly poor reputation IMO. Light, resonant, lovely wood. It wouldn't be my first choice for transparent finishes but with any opaque finish it's a very nice wood. It might require you to stick some chipped wood or glue into the screw holes for the strap buttons after 3 years instead of 4 years with alder but that's about it. If denting is a problem with basswood you're probably treating your guitars in a way that would dent most other woods too.

I have no problem with a basswood bass as long as it's made in Japan. It's soft and you have to be more careful with it but if it's like my 2018 MIJ P Bass then it's light and produces a good tone without chambering like an MTD or a NYC Sadowsky Deluxe.
My loving wife bought me a beautiful Japanese made limited edition Black and Gold P Bass for the 2018 Christmas and that is one I'll someday pass on to my brother or son. It's a beautiful looking bass with a rich and punchy P bass tone. I lived I Japan for four years and I saw how the Japanese take much personal pride in their build quality and they have a very high work ethic. American car manufacturers learned from them how to improve their production lines with a methodology called "Total Quality Management (TQM)" which relies on continuous improvement and customer service. The Air Force paid for my training in TQM and it makes a lot of business sense.
I bought a MIJ Jazz Bass Special new in 1986 and was too naive then to know I shouldn't have sold it just a year later. If I was in the market this is one bass I would seriously consider. However, I think the price is higher than it should be but it looks great and I like the more modern colors and black hardware/headstock. I'm surprised they didn't make this one a limited edition but that also means limited sales. However, that price point is likely to limit the sales. I'm looking forward to the reviews on this one.

I'm the opposite: I'm happy to see Fender producing a bass with no pickguard.
But the green is not for me, though still - why no matching headstock?
