New Fender Select 2013

Lord I hate pointless, drivel based advertising. Couldn't he play one bass lick? One thing that's select about it except the stain and the block inlay? Both of those are styling cues. Stain isn't good or bad if it comes out of a gun or from a rag. It's either on right or it isn't. The older I get, the less I care what people do or don't play.

Don't get me wrong devin, I have no problem with you wanting to have a thread about these new instruments. It's just my age (old) showing and the stupidity of the video itself.

Looks like the string spacing is jacked up. G is closer to the edge of the fingerboard than the E. Didn't seem to be the angle he was holding it that made it appear that way either..

It does look like the neck has shifted a little. It doesn't seem to both Chris, and is probably just an adjustment away from being spot-on. I would be more concerned about the way this video makes old men rant incoherently.

IIRC, the necks on the Select basses are made with quartersawn maple. That sort of feature is usually an upcharge feature from any manufacturer. But I really like the way quartersawn maple will help to stabilize a neck.

I have the 2012 P, and I also like the compound radius neck a lot. The real "select" aspect IMO is the pickups, though. I extensively compared it with various other P models in the shop and was struck by the loudness, depth and clarity of the bass. Maybe it also has something to do with the wood they used. Anyway, I think they're pretty great. The one bad thing was the lack of shielding, but adding copper shielding took care of that. Still, seems like Fender should have taken care of that detail on a $2K bass.
