Tele bass should be arriving at my local little guitar shop at the end of the month. Nearly put some cash down to reserve it today but wanted to give it a go first. The three other Modern Players they had were all nicely put together so i expect the good work to continue.

Has anyone played the Jaguar yet?
I'd like to know if there are differences between the Modern Player Jag and the Squier one. Id' love to have a Jaguar, but the original tops my budget.
Too bad they don't make them in Candy Apple Red since that's my favourite.

I'm hoping that Santa's going to bring me a Tele on the 25th of December. I've been really good this year. 
I placed a pre order with Musician's Friend for the MP Jaguar.
I've really became a Jaguar fan. The two Squier Jaguars I have are of exceptional build quality. They play as well as my MIA Precision (I know some people don't want to hear that). The jags actually sound better than my MIA Precision (maybe because of the Seymour Duncans that come on the Jags?).
I used to have a MIJ Jaguar, which was one of the worst sounding basses i've ever owned. Played well but just could never get a sound I liked out of it. Here is some pic whoring.

I'm going to guess the shorscale above isn't stock fretless. If it is, I'm dropping some bucks today.
I also have had the same experience with Fender and Squier. I liked my Squiers much more than the Fenders, BUT my Fender Jaguar is the only one of stable of Fenders I've purchased that I hung onto. Maybe the shielding fix I did had something to do with it, or I just like different sounding basses than you. I'm not a fan of MIM Fenders, and all the MIA Fenders I've owned left a lot to be desired.
Anyhow, I'm hopeful on the new Fenders. I like the price, the fact that they're not made where the others are, the uniqueness of them (for a fender), and I'm pushed over my Fender hating cliff by the fact that I always wanted a tele bass, but could never really justify it before this.

It's not a short scale fretless just looks that way in the pic. It had the block neck on it which I put on my 60's Classic Vibe Precision. I just happened to have a fretless neck laying around and got the other Jag just to give it a home. It sounds awesome!! I prefer the P bass pickup sound myself, (which my MIJ Jag could never get) lately my two Stingrays are just sitting in their cases hibernating.
Please, please, please write a review when you get it! Can't wait to hear some opinions.
I'd be delighted if any of my Fenders played/sounded as good as my China-made CV Squier P. If these are made in the CV shop with improved hardware we can expect some of the best Fenders we've seen in a long time. Here's to hoping!
The "Modern Player" Jazz has been rumbling around my head for the past 2 weeks as the perfect platform for my "Effects Bass" with Bass Sustainiac sustainer, Black Kahler trem & Black Sperzel locking tuners on Olympic White while its "Dual Coil" pups (I'm interested in seeing how they're wired, and if they can be splitable without too much trouble) sounds close to the punch of my Euro Bolt-On Spectors with Nordy Big Singles but for a far easier weight on the wallet (actually in FantasyLand I'd love *2* - one for the above EFX Bass, and one tuned to C Standard for low pickstyle playing)
However, being MIC at the same price as the Factory Special Run Natural Ash MIM Jazz Bass still hanging at my local GC has crushed some of that desire. Sorry Fender, but if Epiphone couldn't sell their MIC Floyd Rose-equipped "Pro/FX" downmarket "Axcess Les Paul" models for $399 (down from $799 initially!) you're not going to get me away from searching for a MIM/MIA Jazz or SUB StingRay/Sterling on CraigsList, investing in a Dremel and making a project out of it. Plus, after years of upgrading my gear with the vast majority being "Small Company Gear" (Spector/Mike Lull/MusicMan for Basses, Nordstrand & Aguilar on the electronics end, Avatar for cabs and various smaller effects builders such as Loop-Master, Xotic & others) and getting stellar service from each one numerous times I've asked myself "Why should I give my hard-earned money to these large conglomerates?" and have yet to come up with an answer that would move me away from supporting the smaller builders & companies out there.

I like the look of the Jazz. I'm wondering if this is just Squier stuff with Fender slapped onto the headstock, and jacking up the price?

Ive got the Tele. Ive played it. I have a crappy cell phone pic that is not uploading for proof.
I bought the model in Butterscotch Yellow. It weighs 10 pounds on a digital scale. The bass has a nice fit and finish. The Butterscotch paint job is definitely Fenders modern interpretation of that color.
The body is a bit smaller than a normal Fender P. Pretty much the same size of the Squier Tele bass.
The neck has a gloss finish, vintage tint, with a skunk stripe on back. Truss rod access at the top. The fret work is solid. No sharp edges. The nut is just a standard cheap plastic nut.
The pickups are without a doubt the same pickup they have been using in the Squier Vintage Modified TB. It seems like the mounting is a bit different though. The sound is the same.
The tuners, bridge, and electronics are pretty cheap. Nothing high end about them.
The sound is comparable to the Squier Tele. The neck p/u solo sounds spot on to it. A little of the bridge mixed in gives it some clarity. Both full on is a little much for my taste. Probably the best sound is found with the bridge p/u full on and the neck at about 1/3.
Overall the bass feels like a high end Squier. Not really up to the quality of the MIM line. Nice but still feels a bit cheap. Great sounding and fun to play. If you like the Squier line this will not let you down! Worth $600? For me probably not. Since I already have a Vintage Modified TB it will probably be returned or traded.

That does sound like kind of a bummer. Of course I am open to hear more reviews, but if it has the same lightweight hardware as the Squier VM, then it's really only the alder body and extra pickup that account for the doubled price.

No. Some components may be the same (tuners, bridges, perhaps pickups) but different body woods and the like.
I received an email from MF yesterday with a tracking number. The Jaguar Modern Player is on it's way. Delivery scheduled for 11-8-11. Will post a review with pics as soon as I can.
