I sincerely hope that these are made in Indonesia, but the bridge tells me that they are probably Chinese. I do love my CV60's J, and would like it to have more midrange balls (DiMarzio Model J's are likely to be in the future), but it's very hard to resist the temptation to trade it and my VM Jaguar (which has the aforementioned balls in spades) in on a "MPJ." (Hey, someone had to eventually come up with the abbreviation.) Must be the Fender name on the headstock.

If they start selling $1500 Mexicans and only build the custom shop guitars in the US, then the value of used US built Fenders will go way up. Maybe I should buy myself a couple.

Fender needs Squier. If we see $99 Fender Bullets, the cachet of the Fender brand will lose value. Fenders will lose much of their mystique. And nobody will pay $1000+ for a USA model. Cadillac went downmarket in the '70s and they're still paying for it. Keep Fender and Squier just like they are right now.

It seems silly to me that Fender would get rid of the Squier label, now that Squier is starting to get a good rep again, and, AFAICT, is quite possibly one of their most successful lines in the last couple of years.

Already got a '74 TELECASTER Bass...not a "Tele Bass". Still putting it back together after stripping it to natural.

And it's not a "P-Bass" or a "J-Bass" they're Precision or Jazz.

So put the picks away and start doing it right...that means fingers, and please use the proper terminology.

It's been said, but that Jag is so Geddy looking. It's that black blocked board, and I like it. The price is pretty alright too, let's just wait to see if the quality is on par. It's hard to resist that jag at 400.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sales person you spoke to didn't have a clue what you were talking about OR L&M is lamer than I had originally suspected (actually I hate to generalize - I've been to at least one location that had friendly staff)...

The guy I regularly deal with was not there. Kevin is more knowledgable. I am going in tomorrow to make a payment, If I see him I will ask again. I wish we had more choice here, but L and M is it. The other 2 are outragoius $700 for a Peavey Grind, $ 750 for a used Mexi Jazz gimme a break. Also L and M is the only one here that offers financing.

I'm not sure if the humbucker sound appeals to me, but they look badass. Both Jazz basses are beautiful, I like the burst and this "Transparent Black" is really cool, too:

No hum would be nice on a jbass.
I've tried the jazz humbuckers on a couple builds, they work well.

I'd really want to go nuts with the electronics of the J-bass. Series/parallel/coil selector switch for each pickup and a universal series/parallel. Might need a bigger control plate!

Did a lot of thinking for awhile and at $599, the Tele-Modern Bass looks to me like the only bass worthwhile. I'll definitely give it a go when it comes out soon; it might be that something "different" that I'm looking for without having to resort to a Jazz bass again.

Agreed. I have and love the Indonesian-made Squier Telebass. A Chinese-made Fender with an alder body and 2 pickups sounds just versatile enough to one-up what I have now.
