New Fender series: MODERN PLAYER

True, but I always grew up with "Made In China"=Cheap.
Me too. But if the Chinese slightly increase their quality, and they're figuring out how to do so very quickly, they'll have the same reputation South Korea has to day, or possibly even Japan in 20 or 30 years. They don't have far to go. Some of these companies have already figured out that quality sells. Squier (Fender) is one of them.

Ohh..... my..... GAWD!!!!

That is just drop dead GORGEOUS!!!!
:hyper::cool:
Checked with Long and McQuaid. They can't order them here in Canada according to the sales guy. :bawl:

Hmmm...

Their marketing is working on me:hmm:

I don't think it is in their best interest to innovate. People want telecasters, stratocasters, precision basses, and jazz basses from them. I think Fender's following has a very low tolerance for innovation and modernization.

They are clearly capable of doing more than what they sell on the walls at Guitar Center. Tye Zamora has a pretty interesting Fender custom:

But you won't see that kind of thing from them on any kind of production scale.

It is amazing to me how easy it is for Fender to recycle their designs and give them sparkly new names.

I always wondered what kind of bass he played. I always assumed it was a J. Drozd.

The Squier CVs are exceptional instruments for their price point. They exceed peoples' expectations. That's why they are so well-loved. This new line is significantly pricier, and the Fender branding will mean peoples' expectations are higher.

it seems to me that Fender is doing some active re-branding, and there will be more of it to come. We'll probably see the day when only custom shop Fenders are USA-made, with the Ensenada factory product priced like the American Standard is now. Seems like a mistake to water down the brand this way, but I guess that's why I'm not their CEO. (disclaimer: I make no claim to having any information nor evidence to support this purely speculative statement)

I wouldn't be surprised if the sales person you spoke to didn't have a clue what you were talking about OR L&M is lamer than I had originally suspected (actually I hate to generalize - I've been to at least one location that had friendly staff)...

...developing on my post above (more pure speculation):

It's as if Fender was using the VM and CV lines to test out the extent they could maintain quality control with overseas production. Now that they have some confidence in this, they're ready to put the Fender name on products from another country in the Far East. Isn't this basically what they did in the early 80s with Japanese Squiers/Fenders?

I played the jazz over my recent vacation in colorado in a store called spotlight music. I really liked how it played and sounded. I didn't check the price or origin of manufacture but it was a really cool bass. I'm gasing to play and here that tele bass, if it is dual mudbucker i may be making a unplanned purchase like chef ;)
