These are chinese basses and guitars. I'm still waiting for Fender to show them on their page...

The new Modern Player Series from Fender is a bit like the Classic Player Series's evil twin: instead of looking back to their heritage Fender are looking forward to their future with some of the boldest design revisions since the early 70s. What's more these Fender Modern Player guitars are incredible value for money because they're made in China where production costs are low and that saving can be passed on to you! Fender don't put their name to anything inferior so you can be sure just as we are that these new Chinese Fenders will feature the same high quality you've come to expect from Fender.

I don't think it is in their best interest to innovate. People want telecasters, stratocasters, precision basses, and jazz basses from them. I think Fender's following has a very low tolerance for innovation and modernization.
They are clearly capable of doing more than what they sell on the walls at Guitar Center. Tye Zamora has a pretty interesting Fender custom:
But you won't see that kind of thing from them on any kind of production scale.
It is amazing to me how easy it is for Fender to recycle their designs and give them sparkly new names.

It looks good, but I've just never been a fan of pickguards that go really far above the strings.
Chinese fender? Hmmm... I'm a long time fan of USA fenders, and a recent fan of Mexican fenders, but Chinese fenders for $600? That's... Interesting.
Seems like Fender is moving in on its own budget line. I wonder if, with these Asian-made models, Fender will eventually do away with the Squier label, everything rebranded as Fender.
