New Firmware Released for tc electronic Spectra Comp

My tech support ticket has produced the following response:

Dear Gemma,

Thank you for your patience and thank you for your purchase.

I am sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing with your SpectraComp Bass Compressor pedal. It's a known issue. There is a bug related with the intern memory of the SpectraComp and power supply. We just released a firmware update in order to fix the problem. It's available since a few days. So you are right to ask us! :)

What's new?


- The pedal could loose toneprint settings on power cycle when used with 3rd party PSUs- fixed


if power is cut on wall socket end using external PSU, the pedal would clear "user page" with current settings and reinitiate the factory default settings ---> the fix changes the voltages on power down to prevent voltage spikes of still loaded condensator to trigger pedal reset


We didn't see the issue within automated test of 25.000 power cycles.

I have just downloaded the Windows version and will load it when I arrive home this evening.

The updater doesn't run on XP, so I'll have to wait and use my windows 7 laptop at work tomorrow. It will probably take me a couple of weeks of good behaviour from it before I really trust it again.
Now if TC would do justice to the software and re-map the layout to use the whole screen, then add metering.
Would also be nice if the editor could be available in the android app as well. I know, don't worry, I'm not holing my breath for it, as I doubt either will ever come to pass. I'll be happy if the little thing can just remember!

It's not working for me. I downloaded the updater, follow the instructions to the letter, and then I'm supposed to "Press the update button when it turns green." problem is it doesn't turn green.

EDIT: Never mind. Restarting the PC helped.

I tried doing this tonight, but the problem is that the update reaches 100%, but doesn't seem to complete, due to the purple/white striped "barber pole" that continues to move from right to left.

Help note #11: "Wait for the progress bar to reach 100% and for the pedal to automatically restart." Dumb question here, but how are we supposed to know if the pedal has "restarted" or not? The LED on the pedal stays on RED. What indication is there that it has restarted?

You should boot the pedal with the on/off switch pushed in so the LED is green. After it restarts the LED is red again.

@veryvery not sure what instructions you are using. The way I updated last time was plug the usb cable into the pedal then the computer, then hold down the on/off switch in the pedal while plugging in it's power supply. Do not let go of the on/off switch of the pedal until it's power light turns green. At which point wait a few moments for the computer to recognise the pedals boot drivers. Then run the updater. When the updater reaches 100% and the light on the pedal turns back to red the update is complete.

OK, so that's exactly what happened. I followed the instructions and everything worked as described. I just wasn't sure as the feedback I was getting from the pedal and the Updater didn't seem to me to be very definitive. Did anyone else get the purple/white barber pole at the end?

When I powered on my Spectra Comp last night, I did it with my big power supply, verified at 9.26 V, and plugged the whole chain in at once. My custom program was working fine. Then I disconnected the Spectra Comp and loaded the new firmware. I repatched everything and my custom program was still working fine.

Hopefully, this is the end of my worries with this pedal, because it really is a fantastic unit, when it is working correctly.

I'm very glad to hear about this, but waiting with baited breath to see if it actually works. I should be able to try it this weekend. I KNEW there was a bug, but I can't even replicate it with all power supplies - doesn't like my Voodoo Labs PP2+, but worked with a OneSpot just fine. No one at TC's (MG's) support believed me, nor did the Sweetwater folks who kindly replaced my first one.
