New Geddy Bass

I'm not normally one to listen to classic rock, but I saw a live video for "The Spirit Of Radio" (i think that's the name), and Geddy is using the black/white jazz, and it has a very snappy, thin tone much like the signature bass you can buy. Some one said the jazz had more lows which is why he switched from the ric. Am I confusing lows and mids? Because I wouldn't consider the tone on that version of the song to have much lows. But I like trebly tone like that (I'm a pick player, who plays pop punk, hate me if you want) so I'm probably gonna buy the geddy before the end of summer.

Geddy himself states in a recent BP interview that he had 'Rediscovered the wonderful low end of the Jazz Bass,' and that was his reason for switching. I just also stated that I find it ironic that his signature bass has no low end to speak of. Its all focused on treble and mids in that bass, with a nice attack, but not a lot of bass in the mix.

Great post. I agree with you as to why Geddy made his changes when he did. At the time he started playing his Jazz full time on stage and in the studio (Counterparts) I felt that he had finally found the perfect bass for his style BUT I still miss his Rickenbacker sound. I love R30 and Rush in Rio but my favorite live album production-wise is Different Stages yet on all 3 of them I wish Geddy pulled out his Rick; especially since R30 was kind of a retrospective on their career. I saw them on the R30 tour 5 times and Alex got such a response when he came out with his doubleneck for Xanadu. Can you imagine if Geddy also had his?
