New Gibson Bass in 2013

I have a buddy at our local GC...gonna see about trying a couple of these new basses...maybe the G3 as well, though I have a bad feeling about the pickups, compared to the old ones
I have the new G-3 the pickups and switching are very good, love it's tone!

That's good to know! Have you compared the reissue to a vintage G3? Curious, as a friend of mine that worked for Gibson said the Grabber reissue didn't really sound like an old Grabber. To be fair, I never heard the reissue

Neither have I, the new pickups are a single coil type, I really like the 3 way switching too. I sat down with it last night and just loved the hour and half I spent with it - great fingerstyle tone from it. Try one

I will for sure! Gonna see if my GC rep can get a couple in the store first...personally I like the looks of that new bass...whatever the heck it's called 
The G3 was the first 'real' bass I ever owned and I loved it to death...didn't have a case for it and it died in a car wreck
Owned a bunch of Grabbers/Rippers over the years...that Non reverse T-bird looks kinda neat though I agree about it needing chrome

I dug the hell out of the Midtown, to be honest. It sounds to me like the "mudbucker" is a total redesign. Gone is the boominess of yesteryear...replaced by an authoritative low-mid grunt that actually has a lot of detail and clarity. Out of all the Gibby's I tried, the voice of this guy was my favorite.

She will. I have to give props where they're due, Gibson has really stepped up this year! There was a pretty big flaw in the G-3 that was there, but it was probably just that instrument. I also dug the non-reverse Thunderbird. It doesn't seem to have the "neck dive issue" of the regular Thunderbird that we've all come to know and love.
there's a TB+ pickup under that big cover. looks like the mudbucker from the old days, but it sounds much different as you found out.

When I first saw the press release for the Midtown, my wife heard my "OH $H17!!!" ( I had just bought a nice 4003 and wasn't ready to sell it). When I asked her to come and look at it on the computer, she said "That's OK, I'm sure I'll see it soon enough." (We've been married 35 years)
Ever since the 60's I've had a "crush" on semi hollow/hollow body basses. I've owned a Fender Coronado, EB-2, Rivoli, Gretch 6072, Ibanez Artcore and a G&L Asat. With the exception of the Asat, I found them to be tonally limited and feedback prone. I am hoping that the one piece body with a solid slab through the center will correct these issues. I typically don't buy new because of depreciation but I'll make an exception here, and it fails my expectations some lucky TB'r will get a good deal!

To be a bit more specific, the one at BPL had a phase issue with the pickups. With the switch in the center position, it sounded like you have a chorus pedal on.
Both this new one and the new Grabber look like basses that beg for a crunchy tube amp, a heavy pick, and a jam to "Ace of Spades."
I like that they're traditional "rockers" and don't pretend to be much else.

Has anyone else got their hands on one of the new Gibsons? I'd like to try all three of them (Midtown, G3, EB), but I'm afraid chances are slim all three models will be in any of the local music stores. I was dead set on the G3 but now the EB is starting to tickle me 
I'm supposed to get mine in 2 weeks. I'll post a review after I get it.

Cool. This is the first time I noticed this thread. I've always loved Gibson for their guitars, but for me personally, it's hit & miss with their basses. Of their recent line-up, I only like the G3 and Oversized Les Paul Bass.
This is a fresh piece from Gibson. Sort of looks like they're taking a stab at the Stingray market re: the 2 humbuckers. I, too, an interested in seeing a TBer's review of this bass.

With Gibson , it has always seemed that Bass guitars are an afterthought, though in their defense there are a LOT of great bass manufacturers out there and it would be impossible to compete fully, but man alive , they could try to innovate a little. Have to agree gibby Basses, Meh, kind of like their amp offerings
