New guy, New to bass

My name is Nik. I just picked up a new bass, and I really love what forums offer, and this forum seems like a great resource! I played bass a little bit in high school. But, a very little bit. Started playing guitar and dropped the bass. I've always been a huge Les Claypool fan, and always wanted to grab another bass and learn the instrument. Been playing guitar for about 15 years, off and on. Very on for the past few years. Now that I have a dedicated "music room", and a whole mess of guitars, I wanted to start playing bass again.

I always check stickies! Though, your "search" comment kind made me chuckle. I've used many forums, for many years. You always have two groups that stand out in forums; the "search first before you ask" group, then the "don't bring threads back from the dead" crowd. Hard to make both happy, plus with the amount of time that forums have been established, how many more questions are there, that haven't been asked? Imagine how dead all forums would be, if nobody asked any questions that haven't previously been addressed? Not picking on you, or your comment at all. Just makes me laugh that /some/ people get really wound up if you either 'bring a thread back from the dead' OR ask a question that has been 'asked a thousand times'. I think that most moderators of most forums do a pretty good job with "sticky-ing" topics that come up regularly. I always try to avoid asking questions that are addressed in any "sticky".

I went to edit my response, to sound like less of a "know it all", or less rude. But, I can't seem to edit it. Oh well. It's good to own whatever you have to say. Going back, I would say "Yes, I will make sure to do that!". I promise, I didn't intend to come off as arrogant! I was more just chuckling in general, at the different types of people in forums. When I re-read it, it came off a little off-putting. SO, for that, I apologize! Especially since I'm brand stinking new here! I do appreciate your tip! And I also appreciate your response!

Thank you so much! I just got my new (2003) bass. Still waiting on my new amp, but I plugged into a seldom used Fender Frontman 212R guitar amp that I have, and played it a little bit (at low volume). I couldn't help it! I had SO much fun! I cannot believe that I have waited so long to get into playing bass! I may have a hard time practicing guitar, at least for a little while!

welcome! i used to be a high school bass student but dropped out ,got into guitars and never ever thought about bass until i was asked to play bass in a band, and it lasted a couple of years until i quit due to a personality clash with a goofball lead guitarist,,but the best thing out of it im sticking with bass because im determined to meet my goal as a bass player ive got lots to learn and dont mind doing the time...
this place has educated me in a lot of ways and the folks here are cool..Enjoy and Cheers!:bassist:

Every person I talked to who consider themselves a guitarist has said this exact thing! Once you go low... you never go back (jk) I'm excited to see your setup!
