I believe you can find Seymour Duncan pups that will work with these.. The ones I saw looked the same, with the 2 screws on one side and one screw on the other, but I didn't actually check the measurements.

New Hadean EB-9705 from Rondo! Wow..

I replaced the Artec 2 band pre with an Artec SE3P bass preamp, the model that has concentric pots. It has a parametric mid that works well with dialing in the mids.
Bump from the dead... I will be getting mine next Monday. I ordered the last one on sale, with the candy-like green stained finish. Link Removed

Why you would want a Hadean when you have a couple of nice Douglas versions, I don't know, (nice looking basses, by the way.) It looks like you have an extra control vs. the Vickers. Midrange EQ?
Thank you! Yes, the 980s have mid eq, in addition to treble and bass. And in answer to your question, I simply find it hard to pass up a crazy deal! That's part of the reason I have my 9 SX LPBs (all different configurations). Many of them were only $99.
I can identify with that... I have a lot of inexpensive basses and guitars... I find I'm much less likely to part with them in a financial crisis, 'cause resale value ain't worth squat, lol.
The SX instruments represent the best bang-for-the-buck. My Ursa six-string jazz is my favorite, though. Tone, playability and looks like this can't be had in a six string for double or even triple the price.
I'm hoping the Vickers will replace my OLP Stingray five...
Greetings! First post here. I just grabbed one as well and am wondering if anybody has installed after-market pickups on this instrument. I've been a guitarist for 28 years and am not a bassist by any means, but this thing was a steal for $139! Very happy with this purchase.
Now that is a good looking bass. Don't be so quick to dump the stock pickups. A new set of strings may be all you need to get the tone you are after, or at least a giant step in that direction. Rondo's stock strings are usually quite awful...
Got my bass in today. No time for a full rundown, but it seems to be very high on the bang-for-the-buck scale.
First impressions:
Lighter than most basses I own.
No black filth on the fretboard, unlike any other Rondo instrument w/rosewood fingerboard that I have seen, ever.
Perfectly usable tone out of the box, with a rich midrange.
There were a couple oh high frets that tapped back into place, still a few buzzy notes above fret 12. (I keep the action pretty low)
Nice slab of dark rosewood for the fingerboard. After oiling, it is a beautiful thing.
A drop of green stain between the end of the fingerboard and neck pickup on one of the maple strips.
Overall, very impressed especially at this price.
BTW there were more rotated in to stock, now at $149, the last time I checked anyway.

Alright, I've got a bit of a progression here in liking the sound of this bass. I might even have a confession about that progression...
I started out by plugging into my audio interface and listening through my monitors. Kind of a meh experience. I figured it sounded ok for $140 bass.
Then I plugged in to the line input in the back of my old Behringer guitar amp with two twelves. This sounded much better. I started thinking I may have hit the low budget jackpot.
Took it to band practice the other night. One of the guitar players asked if I had put upgraded pickups in it because it sounded so good in the mix. Cha-ching, jackpot.
Ergonomically, it fits much better than a jazz bass. Since the body is much smaller, I can rest the heel of. my hand more comfortably on the arm bevel area. I added about an eighth of a turn relief on the truss rod and the action is not quite as little now but the strings don't clank against the fretboard as badly, I like the action as low as I can get it while maintaining good tone. I think it's a screaming deal.

I didn't realize these were so open-grained. That's interesting. I almost bought one to refinish for a project, but I'm using a different Douglas bass (also bought from Rondo) for that now. Seeing the grain on this makes me glad I didn't choose the Hadean EB-9705.
The grain is sealed but not completely filled. It looks like a coat of semi-gloss polly shot directly on the stained wood. Water beads up, and grunge can be wiped off with a damp rag.
I quite like the look myself and I love the patterns on this particular instrument, so I took these shots with angled lighting and high contrast to emphasize the appearance of the grain. Under normal lighting/viewing conditions, the grain doesn't "pop" quite so much.
Now they just need need one with a maple fretboard....
